Rotate between two external drives

Thread needs solution

I want to have two independent chains of backups on two different external drives. As I have to swap drives manually anyways, I tried to create two different tasks and run the correct one manually, however that didn't really work: I got problems like Acronis not being able to open the path (though it was clearly available in the explorer), full backups when it should have been incrementals and so on.
Searching the forums, I read about Chain2Gen but I don't see how that would help me at all.
Can anyone tell me how to set up Acronis (and whatever tool necessary) to get two independent backup chains on different hdd, so that I can rotate disks?

What version of TrueImage and Windows are you using? The new version 2011 comes the closest to performing this task but it keeps all the backups sets in one folder and the folder become crowded and confusing if you have many backups there over a period of time. Chain2Gen stores only one chain per folder and uses multiple folders to retain older backups. One chain is 1 full plus any inc or diff associated with that full.

I have been using Chain2Gen ever since it was created. What you describe has worked successfully using TrueImage Home versions 2009, 2010, and now 2011.

One task points the backup to drive X on Sunday
and another task points the backup to Drive V. on Wednesday.
Incrmental or differential backups are created according to your specifications.

I use MudCrab's Drive Notify to remind me as to which drive to attach and when to attach it. TrueImage does the backups and the scheduling and Chain2Gen does the file retention part and make sure a full is created based on your parameters.
