Scheduled Task Failure

Thread needs solution

Every night I get a failure in my log that says a task that is supposed to run at 1 AM failed. I have no task to run then. I have 2 backups that run at 2 AM and 4 AM respectively.

I get the following message:
Details: Scheduler failed to run task because of error 87 (Scheduler has received a request with an invalid parameter.).

More information can be found at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x00090057

Unfortunately, that even code returns nothing.

My backups seem to be working fine, I just want to get rid of this error. I have tried opening a case, but have not gotten any response.

I have removed all scheduled backups and re-entered them, but the problem persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Stephen,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

The issue concerns to malfunction of Acronis scheduler, so please do the following in order to solve it:

  1. Download Acronis Scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service:
  2. Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat. The utility will automatically update the service;

See if the issue is resolved. If it is not, then please proceed with steps 3 and 4:

  1. Reboot the machine;
  2. Recreate the scheduled tasks.

If the issue persists do the following:

Please do the following:

- Download the http://www.acronis.com/files/support/schedmgr.exe file ;

- Start the Command Prompt from Start -> Programs -> Accessories menu;

- Run the following commands in the folder you saved the file to:

schedmgr task zap

schedmgr service stop

schedmgr service uninstall

schedmgr service install

schedmgr service start

This should delete all the scheduled tasks on the PC. You should manage your scheduled tasks from the scratch.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Same error code 0x00090057 which is not recognised in support.

I have followed the instructions you provided but get errors when I try to run some of the schedmgr.exe commands.

What should I do to fix these?

This is what I get when I run the suggested set of commands:

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr task zap
task
zap
Ok

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service stop
service
stop
Ok

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service uninstall
service
uninstall
rror: 5 (0x5) - Access is denied.

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service install
service
install
Ok

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service start
service
start
rror: 5 (0x5) - Access is denied.

Dimitry,

I am getting exactly the same problem as Stephen & Chris and when I tried to fix as per your instructions I got the same messages as Chris above.

Anything else I can do?

A backup program that fails to backup is not a very useful tool.

Thanks
Dinos Kitromilides

Hello all,

I will do everything possible in order to resolve the issue you experience.

After you perform “service stop” run install.bat file from the scheduler update and then continue with the rest commands.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Dimitry,

Have tried to do it as you describe but here are the same results below.

C:\Users\Dinos\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr task zap
task
zap
Ok

C:\Users\Dinos\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service stop
service
stop
Ok

 Run Install.bat here (quick flash of a command window) then continued as below.

C:\Users\Dinos\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service uninstall
service
uninstall
rror: 5 (0x5) - Access is denied.

C:\Users\Dinos\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service install
service
install
rror: 5 (0x5) - Access is denied.

C:\Users\Dinos\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service start
service
start
rror: 5 (0x5) - Access is denied.

Looking forward to any more ideas you may have.

Thanks
Dinos

Dmitry

Like Dinos I have tried this and don't think it has succeeded.

This what happened when I ran the install.bat file:

Ok

C:\Users\Chris\Downloads\Acronis>schedmgr service stop
service
stop
Ok

I also get this error. I put in a support request and "2 weeks later" they answered. Gave the same advice as the above. I did not go as far as the two above but I did uninstall the program and clean registry then reinstall. Recreated the schedules but get the same error. I must say the support from Acronis is just about the worst I have ever seen and slowest.
Two items that were scheduled today did run, one was a e-mail backup to a DVD and a Drive C backup to the Secure Zone and these actually succeeded! The tasks that always fail are a daily e-mail backup to a different partition. I am always able to run this task manually.
One other behavior that I have noticed it that if you delete the tasks, all of them, you still get the same error in the log file.
I ran the scheduler update again last evening and the two tasks ran today. I will see if the daily e-mail backup task runs this evening as scheduled.

Hello all,

Let me assist you.

First if all, please make sure that you've logged in under account with administrative privileges.

Secondly, if you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, please start Command Prompt under Administrator account the following way:

  1. Click on Start Button
  2. Go to All Programs -> Accessories
  3. Now righ-click on Command Prompt and select “Run as Administrator” from context menu.
  4. This should bring elevated command prompt mode with full Administrators rights
  5. After that please update Acronis Scheduler manually once again.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you.

Ilya,
Your reply is late as is all your attempts at supporting you software. Its now been 15 days since I posted to this forum, 15 days.
Now to the substance of the 'help', I tried to uninstall Acronis so to get a clean install and not schedule any tasks as when I delete the tasks the errors continue even though no tasks are present. Anyway, Acronis would not uninstall. I tried the so called Remove tool but it did a incomplete job and now I am unable to install Acronis anymore. I get a error saying the install was not complete and to restart the installer which gives the same error.

I have given up on Acronis and just want it off my computer and can not completely remove it. I am sorry I ever purchased this program and wish I could get a refund for my purchase price. But like everything else that Acronis does it will most likely not happen! They probably will not refund my money or take months to do so!
Jim

Hello James,

I'm terribly sorry for the delay with the response.

I'll do my best to help you as soon as possible.

Could you please confirm that you've used the correct version of Clean-Up Utility that is available at this KB article (since there are 2 types of cleanup tool - for older versions and for True Image 2010)?

Please do the following to fix the installation issue:

  1. Download the utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us, install and run it;
  2. Select the Acronis product that fails to be installed and hit Remove;
  3. Try to install Acronis True Image Home 2010 from scratch and check if the issue still persists.

If you still unable to install the software, please gather MS Installer log as described at this KB article and attach it to your reply. This installation log will allow me to find out what went wrong during the installation.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

When I run the MS Clean up Utility there is no Acronis product listed. I then went and created a Acronis Installer Log like the article says. I am enclosing it but I was unable to upload a RAR file so I sent the un compressed file. It was small.

Now what?

Hello James,

Thank you for the provided installation log.

The error in the log file generally indicates that the you were not able to delete the product in the usual way through Control Panel.

Please the value 3A83DE76 in the the following branch of the system registry on the problem machine:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCode

Having found the registry key, you should delete and start the installation of the Acronis product over again.

Please let me know if the issue still persists.

Thank you.

Have the same error message at 11:01 pm. I have no process at that time that I know of. You are not alone.

You might want to look at this posting of mine. The errors numbers are different but appear the same type error.
