Scheduler Service Causes Win 7 to Fail Boot
On a fresh install of True Image 2013 on a Win 7 x64 system I cannot boot successfully with the scheduler service active.
Bringing up the boot menu and booting to "Last known good..." allows the boot to complete however the scheduler service will not run and I cannot correct the issue permanently. Once I am able to boot into Windows then a launch of TI 2013 results in the following error dialogue:
"Failed to change startup type of scheduler service" then further references "Event code: 0x00900021+0x0000FFF0+0x80070424"
(See the full error in the attachment)
At this point I can perform a repair of TI 2013 and all is well and happy, including a running scheduler service until, that is, when I reboot the system then the problem returns.
This problem is quite frustrating and I have beeb unable to see anything in the event logs to lead me to a resolution. Any help on this is welcome.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion shadowsports. I'll give this a shot tomorrow and advise.

Did you try to:
- go to services.msc
- look for the scheduler service
- right click on it, choose properties and set the startup type as automatic.
Are you installing as an administrator?

And therein lies part of the problem in that I do not see the scheduler service there. I understand that it *should* be there but it's not. I'd already thought of this and checked previously. Oddly, following a repair which does in fact repair the service (until reboot) the service entry is still not listed. Regardless, even if the service were there and I set it to automatic it would just cause the system to hang at boot which is why I then have to "Boot to last good ..." to get back into the OS.
Good suggestion though. Thanks.

By any chance has there been a previous version of True Image on your system where the service was removed via the command line sc delete scheduler2 or similar?
Don't try this - as strange things will happen

Colin,
Yes, I had previously had 2012 installed but performed an uninstall, application and not just services, prior to installing 2013.

As you uninstalled using the uninstaller my thought doesn't apply. If the service is delted manually via the command line it can be extremely difficult to get it to re-install.
If it is showing in services immediately after installation you could try changing its log on from Acronis user to your logon and see if it stays visible that way.
I suppose another option would be to install 2012 again and then install 2013 over the top, assuming you didn't have this problem with 2012.

Hmph... no joy on any of the suggestions so far. I've not yet tried reinstalling 2012 yet to see if that works. Once I do I'll report back on the results. Thanks everyone for your continued assistance.

[Unresolved]
Well darn. I completely removed 2013, ran the cleaner, then reinstalled 2012. My PC boots fine and Acronis 2012 runs without issue. I then install 2013 and I'm right back to the non-boot problem. There's something with that stinkin' Scheduler Service that prevents the PC form booting. I've been careful to turn off my AV so it's not that.
Very frustrating. I thank everyone for offering their suggestions but I think it's time to involve customer service.

Did you follow all the cleaning steps before installing 2013? You should turn off Windows integration, Secure Zone, etc., uninstall ATI 2012, reboot, run the cleaner and follow the registry steps, reboot, and only then install 2013. It can even be helpful to do a modified boot before installing 2013, but disabling non-MS services.

Yeah, unless I've missed something I've done everything suggested including booting with only essential, minimal services. My time is limited and while I really want to resolve this I may have to revert back to 2012 for a short time.

Well, after all this time, nothing. I never did resolve this issue until I reformatted and re-installed the OS. Not exactly the solution I wanted but it at least works now.
