The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive

Thread needs solution

Am trying to recover data from a True Image Archive compiled 6 weeks ago. I get the above message. The same message occurs with other images created around the same time. I cannot believe that they are all corrupted.

What is the possible cause of this and where do I go from here ?

Paddy,

What version and build of TI are you using?

Are you using the latest build available for your version?

Have you tried accessing the backups from TI in Windows and TI from the CD?

It may help if you provided more details on the backups. Type (Full, Incremental, Differential) and method (drive/partition or files & folders), are they all in the same folder or separate folders, location (USB drive, SZ, etc.).

Is it only backups from a certain time period that are reported corrupt? Backups before that and after that are okay?

MudCrab,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm using ATI Home 2011 Version 11.0 (build 8,101) which I downloaded today as part of my attempt to reinstall my damaged computer. I was having the same problem with all my backups, not just ones from a certain time period, which had me puzzled. I could understand one backup being corrupted but not all of them on two different external HDDs.

I think I have found the solution and I am appalled. By using a 6-week-old rescue disk I've been able to get at the old archives. I conclude that because the backups were made with ATI Home 2010 they cannot be read by ATI Home 2011 ! If this is true - and I sincerely hope that someone can credibly contradict me - then I'm disgusted. I've been using ATI for years and now when I need it it has me jumping through these hoops.

Build 8,101 is TI 11, not TI 2011. Are you sure you downloaded the correct file? Older versions of TI normally can't read backups created with newer versions.

TI 8, TI 9, TI 10, TI 11, TI 2009, TI 2010, TI 2011. TI 2011 is the current version.

Thanks, MudCrab, for your help and the correction. Much appreciated.

I had indeed downloaded Ver 11 after thrashing around on the Acronis site for quite a while and coming to the conclusion that 11 was the same as ATI 2011.

Your chronological list of versions is so simple. If only that were up front in the Downloads section.

I can't understand why ATI couldn't throw up a more informative error message. Software developers who are constantly and frequently ungrading their product presumably know that there is a strong likelihood of a future conflict in versions.

I've downloaded ATI Home 2011 and have mounted the image of my previous Windows 7 partition but for some reason when I try to read the files in the folders under Users (e.g.Users -> John, Users -> Jane, Users ->Fred) it says I am not allowed to access them. I'm logged into my Windows 7/64-bit system as Administrator so can't understand this.

You will probably need to restore the files/folders. Then, if still needed, set the permissions to be correct for you to access. You can do this using the Security tab on the file's/folder's Properties.
