Set partition size when restoring to a larger disk

Thread needs solution

I want to replace the current disk with a larger one so I make a backup of the whole disk. Then restart using True Image boot CDROM, then try to restore the backup to the new larger disk.

Since the new disk is larger, I want to set the partition sizes on it manually. However, there are no options to do this. In the last step, True Image just list out the tasks, and enlarge the original paritions prorated. But I don't want so.

Any way to set the sizes of the partitions in the new disk manually? Thank you.

Check out the many user guides and tutorials in the left margin of this forum, particularly Getting Started and Grover's True Image Guides which are illustrated with step-by-step screenshots.

My preferred method would be the #3 signature link below and choosing item #1 inside that link. This method would restore each partition one at a time.

Another method would be to click on #1 signature link below and locate index item #3-UU.
Within the 3-UU is a couple choices as to which might match your computer.

These are not geared to Windows 8 but may or may not work in Win8.

Hi,

Thank you. It seems that clone is more easier than creating backup and then restore during the migration. What is the disadvantages of it?

Best regards

Clone is more risky. Backups and restore is safer.

The clone is less safe due to
1. Frequent wrong choices by the user in disk selection. Wrong disk gets overwritten or power plug gets pulled during the process.
2. Hardware or power malfunctions.
3. Software issues or process issue which can cause loss of data on one or both disks.
4. The source is not attached and not at risk during a restore procedure.
5. If I were going to clone, I would do a disk image backup first so as to have a safety valve recovery in case of a mishap.
