Share Secure Zone or create multiple secure zones.......
Scenario - Multiple computers in a windows XP workgroup (residential). One external 1TB USB drive. I would like to use Secure Zone functionality for all individual computers and have them all be able to back up to the one external drive which is connected permanently to one computer.
I can create a secure zone for the direct connected computer and backup with no problems. However, I can't figure out how to backup from the other computers to the existing secure zone NOR can I figure out how to create separate secure zones on the partition I have shared on network from the external drive. I have tried mapping the drive, etc..... but it would appear ATIHOME will only create secure zone on drives that are directly connected to any particular computer.
I would appreciate any helpful comments or suggestions (yes, I am considering buying additional external drives).

Thanks for the reply K0LO,
I was using the external drive formated as NTFS. The problem is that ATIH is absolutely unreliable when it comes to purging older backups to make room for newer backups. When I use the ASZ, ATI seems to run flawlessly, removing backups to make room as needed.
As this is being setup for my 90 year old parents who are 3000 miles away, I must make this as "Hands off" as possible. I found that I was frequently dealing with the problems generated by ATI not being able remove backups.
Hopefully someone that has first hand experience with this and who might have a solution to my problems will chime in.

Hi Peter,
You may be able to automate the purging of older backups by using something along the lines of the "VBScript to automatically consolidate backup archives" which can be downloaded from: https://www.acronis.com/r/support/en/kb/976/consolidate_vbs.zip.
According to comments in the script, this is what it does: "This script will start at a parent folder and then for each sub-directory check the number of Acronis True Image incremental or differential backup files. If the set number of files has been reached, then consolidate the oldest of the set into the full image."
The idea is that you can add the execution of the script as a Pre or Post command to True Image backup tasks and have it perform the purging you want. A nice thing about it is since the source code is available you can modify it do almost anything you want (subject to the limitations of Visual Basic and Acronis' documentation).
Hope this helps.
Martin
P.S. Attached is a copy of the .zip archive containing the script.

Thanks Martin, I see that as another way to skin the cat. I certainly wish Acronis would resolve this within TI Home. It is a real pain in the ***.

I have a Acronis secure zone on an extra non-C internal hard disk. I have an external hard disk connected to my computer. Can I create a second Acronis secure zone on that external hard disk and use it for additional backups?

Why would you want to or need to? I see no benefit to that, and some downsides. Just create a folder on that drive to contain backups, no need for the complexity and risk of the Secure Zone.
