Should I just uninstall everything and start over creating a new backup on a newly installed destination HD?

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2012 2 years ago installed it on my Windows 7PC and ran the initial set up to create a backup and had it scheduled to do updates. I was using the D drive in my computer for the backups and earlier this year realized I would need a bigger hard drive as it was filling up. In July I went ahead and upgraded to 2014 but have been traveling and away so the computer was not used much.

So, fast forward to this week. I installed a 1TB drive (now my E drive) and thought I would get back to doing backups but each time I try to start Acronis 2014 it hangs up for several minutes, keeps freezing up and sometimes just crashes. On occasion I get the screen to come up that lets me check the sources to back up (C drive) but I couldn't find a way to point it to the new E drive for a destination. I even copied the backup partitions off of the D to the E drives but it still will not work.

I am wondering if I should just uninstall all Acronis software and files and reinstall my 2012 version ( I have the disc) and then download the upgrade that I paid for in July and then start over with a new attempt to create a backup with my E drive as the destination.

In the meantime I got an invite to upgrade to 2015 but I think if I do that it won't help solve the problems at hand. Also a bit frustrating that they offer me the 2015 free if I buy 2014. I just bought it 2 months ago! That kind of sucks!

Well your issues are addressable I think, did you do an inplace upgrade from 2012 to 2014? If so that sometimes borks an install. Most of the time it is best to uninstall the old version, then run the clean up tool, then perform a fresh clean install of the new product. Having said that there is certainly no harm in attempting to repair the present installation as it sounds like there might be just some configuration or corrupted file issues at work. To do this download, if you have not already, the 2014 install file and run it as administrator, from the resulting menu choose repair install option.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Not sure on the install, but I think I just paid for it and downloaded the upgrade; don't remember uninstalling 2012 unless it instructed me to do so. It's taking forever to even get 2014 up and running. I click on the icon and it takes 3 minutes or so to appear, then each time I click on anything, such as settings or Backup it gives me the Not Responding disclaimer and then just waits. A couple of times it has just crashed and I'm left to start all over again.

Think it might be just as fast to completely uninstall all traces and start over again. Realistically, I want a snapshot of my computer right now as I have added programs and other files.

That is your choice, just uninstall then run the clean up utility (link below), and reinstall.

Don't forget, the TI Recovery CD is always available immediately for both backups as well as recoveries.

Thanks guys, I ended up uninstalling the program and downloading 2014 again and reinstalling it. It still seemed a bit sluggish when I ran the first backup but I have it scheduled for weekly incremental ones so hopefully it should run fine.
