Shutdown After Backup Fails - True Image Hm 2011

Thread needs solution

I go to "File Backup Options", "Advanced" Tab, "Computer Shutdown" and check the box for "Shut down the computer after the backup is complete"...
After the backup completes the shutdown has failed and the computer stays on... The Warning Event in the log says "Waiting for shutdown: Cancel/Shutdown/

I am using Windows XP Pro - SP3 and have 2 esata external drives. 1 is the backup destination and the other is the photo and Lightroom catalog external drive that I am backing up.

If anyone has knowledge or suggestions I would appreciate your reply. I have attached the log detail.

Thanks

Other users have reported some similar instances. Here are a couple alternatives.

1. Remove the shutdown option and place it inside a batch file. Include the batch file as a pre/post post option so the shutdown occurs after everything done.

or
2. Remove the shutdown option and assign the shutdown duties to the regular Windows Task Scheduler after allowing enough time for the backkup to complete.

You can click on my signature link below and look at index item #9-H for more info.

Thank you GroverH,

I like the idea of the batch file in the post command, although it seems that the built in feature would already be doing that. It also seems that the engineers would write the fix for this bug in an update (hopefully). I searched on the Acronis site and this forum and surprisingly I have not found a specific method or directions for how to notify Acronis of a bug. I guess they might see a bug post in the forum, but there ought to be a way to do that directly.

I see where I would place the batch file but I am not sure how to do it. That is not something I have experience with. I do understand the principle of it though. I searched the user help but did not find specific instructions. Can you direct me?

Unzip the attachment and add a pointer to your pre/post post command pointing to your unzipped file command file.

This was part of my prior reference above.

I'm sorry I did not see that the first time (Duh)... Had been going on very little sleep and I guess I subconsciously ignored that sentence thinking it was part of method #2, and I had already determined I liked #1... but I got it now.

Just curious. How long has this been a known issue? Not that it's a really major one, but I'm still surprised Acronis has not corrected it in an update.

Thanks again

Uncheck
"Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode)".
This worked for me.
As long as "Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode)" is enabled Acronis is waiting for a manual user input when shuting down. See log file it says: Waiting for shutdown: Cancel/Shutdown.
This is a bug. If you select "Shut down the computer after the backup is complete" AND "Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode)" it must shutdown no matter what user actions are required.
