Simple "How-To". Recover and reinstall a single backed-up program

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image Home 2011.

I have been taking regular backups, and now need to recover a lost program. To wit: MS Outlook 2010. I can find the files in my backup, but I don't know how to re-install the program. Which backed-up files do I need to recover, and then how do I actually re-install the product?

Thanks very much,

You can't re-install a program by recovering it from the backup individually. You will have to restore the entire backup. If you don't want to do this then you have to re-install it. You will need the DVD/CD that Office came on to do this.

Thanks, Thomas,

I was hoping that would not be the case, as my CD for Outlook was abducted by aliens some time ago. Looks like I'll have to buy it again...not cheap.

I would try restoring from one of your backups that does have the program in it. You can explore the backup images using windows explorer.

hello I am in the same situation. I have made a back up , but want to re-install outlook from it, (Also some other programs ) without reinstalling the entire back up. Your second comment seems to indicate there is hope?.

Greetings,
As thomasjk mentions, it is not possible to restore installed programs or application from a back up image individually. The entire image needs to be restored.

Data files containing configuration information or actual, emails, contacts, calendar, documents, etc., can be recovered from an image, but the program must be reinstalled first.

Hope this clarifies things.

As shadowsports says, you may restore your entire system if you like. That will return your system to exactly as it was when you made the backup. Alternatively, you may choose to restore just certain files/folders.

You cannot restore just a single, working, installed Windows application. That's not possible with backup software, because of how applications install themselves into many parts of the system disk and the Windows registry.

Hi Guys, thanks for the info!. This may be helpful, as i just need to reinstall certain aspects of Outlook. First of all, the connection settings, they are a pain in the rear to set up again,, there always seems to be a problem, so if you have knowledge of a way to retrieve the original connection settings, it would be very helpful.
But reinstalling old emails and contacts is more likely to be achievable, so would be also a bonus if you could point me in the right direction for that, ( not to mention itunes settings/playlists)

Not much help from Acronis, so thankful to your responses.
