Single version of full backup

Thread needs solution

I want to take a Full Partition backup and only keep 1 version of it. I have set it up as a Full backup using a Single Version Scheme which implies that it just overwrites it every time. Does this mean that it overwrites it or creates a new one and at the removes the previous one. Reason for asking is that I am backing up a 120gb backup onto a 160gb HDD. What I mean is do I need 120gb of space or 240gb. This is just for an emergency backup to be kept at work in case of a disaster at Home so I do want to buy a new HDD to keep 2 versions - any advice ?

Acronis TIH 2012 will create a new backup before deleting the old one. Whether or not you have enough room on your destination backup drive will depend on how much space you are using on your source drive. By default, ATIH 2012 uses compression that gets about a 2:1 ratio during the backup. For example, if your source drive is 50% full (60GB), then the backup file size will be about 30GB. This will vary based on the type of files you have stored on your system. The compression setting is adjustable for higher, lower, or no compression. Higher compression backup tasks will take longer to complete, but will make a smaller backup file. Take a look at the size of your backup file, multiply that by three. The resulting number will be, at minimum, the size of destination drive you need. This will increase as your source drive has more data added to it.
