Thread needs solution

Downloading recent TI 2010 build 6053 resolved the issue. Newly created bootable CD can now detect external USB harddisk.

This is interesting, as my experience has been quite different. I have been trying ATIH 201, 6053 as a candidate for my backup solution. I have 3 internal HDD (2 of them SATA) and 1 external USB HDD, as well as wireless USB keyboard and mouse. These are all common equipment; nothing is really exotic. I can back up to the USB drive using the windows client, but the Restore CD does not recognize the non-SATA drive or the USB drives when using the restore capability. Also, the keyboard and mouse are DOA. To make things more interesting, I can see the other drives with the boot cd when doing non restore activities, such as adding a disk, I just can't see them as a source for images to restore.

It seems to me that the actions I'm trying to complete are common uses for a back up and restore application. The inconsistencies of seeing drives in one functional area, but not another are concerning. How rigorously was this build tested before being blessed as "ready for release"?

@Allan Tygert
I've found that if the Acronis disk won't let you "see" some of your drives, if I try a different activity - such as go to pretend to start a backup instead of a restore, then back out of it and return to the OTHER activity, sometimes that triggers the visibility of the drives - just a thought.

Thank you very much for this post, it SOLVED my problem trying to back up a laptop to an external hard disk (with True Image Home 2011, bootable CD)!!!
I never had this problem with any of my other PC's, plugging in the hard disk into a USB slot (or switching on if already plugged in) always revealed the external drive as one of the disks to backup to, or restore from. Sometimes this could take quite a bit of time, nevertheless, it would be listed. But starting with my recently obtained laptop this behaviour has changed. Because the external drive was not listed, i assumed some compatibility problem to prevent me from backing up. When returning to the previous menu the external drive immediately began to make some noise, and when selecting 'Backup' once more it was nicely listed as one of the drives...

Paul.

Paul,
If your new laptop is Window-8, 2011 will not work properly with Win-8.
