Storage is available, but Non Stop Backup refuses to start with "Cannot read from storage"

Thread needs solution

I'm using registered version of Acronis True Image Home 2012. Non Stop Backup started refusing to start today. I tried everything that I already found online, but nothing makes it start working again.

The Backup is saved to an external USB 3 WD "My Book" drive. The drive is mounted and perfectly available (I can browse all the folders, open files, etc. on it).

If I try to force NSB to run, it tries to run and a few seconds after it says it is stopped.

Log shows:

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.

I dont know more what to do, and right now I'm unprotected regarding backup :(

Hi Carlos,
I attempted to look up your error message, but it did not return any hits. I also searched for each error indivudually, but again found nothing.

I have a few suggestions for you in the meantime.

-Try restarting your machine
-Try connecting your USB device to a different port
-If drive mapping is being used, try deleting and recreating the mapping
-Perform a repair install of Acronis using Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features.

If you're concerned aout being protected, make a disk image back up while the MVP's look further into this issue.

>-Try restarting your machine

First thing I have done, not helped.

>-Try connecting your USB device to a different port

My notebook only has 1 USB 3 port.

>-If drive mapping is being used, try deleting and recreating the mapping

Drive is not mapped, and I can access it and all the content with no problem.

>-Perform a repair install of Acronis using Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features.

Will try this, but not with too much hope.

Carlos

Carlos,
How is the external disk formatted? What utility was used to format?? I know you can access it in windows, etc... also, try connecting the drive to a USB 2.0 port... as well.

The External USB is formatted by Windows using NTFS. NSB was working perfectly on it. It stopped working with no apparent reason. It is not a format/port problem (otherwise the storage would not be working for other "standard" applications).

I tried to contact the Acronis support, but they want me to pay for support. I'll not do this, since whatever the problem is, it is related to NSB, since anything else is working fine. Why I should pay to solve a problem in their software (that I already bought)? The support/knowledge base has no extra info about the error codes, but I was able to find other posts in the forums from people that had the same problem (with no solution).

It is a shame that a software that is supposed to protect you against failures, just stop working with no apparent reason and you "loose" months of "point in time backup" info.

For now, I disabled NSB and installed Genie Timeline. I'm testing it right now, and if it works as desired, I probably will buy it and say goodbye to Acronis! Acronis is doing an excellent job to loose customers.

PS: I'm a software developer and work with computers for more than 20 years.

Can you post a screen shot of the log file with the latest NSB backup summary line expanded? See this forum topic for an example:

Tom, right now I cannot take the screenshot because, as I said, I completely disabled Acronis in my machine. But I had sent the full zipped log file to Acronis support, before they answered that I should pay if I want any help.

The recent log lines shows the error I described in the first post, several times (basically, every time I tried to start the backup manually, it logged the same error and didn't start).

I checked the link you sent, but I do not think it is the same problem.
