Strange behaviour on file backup task creation
Hi,
When i try to setup a new task on TI 2011, i get an issue if i select the "desktop" folder under my profile.
By selecting it, everything get selected !!! It behaves like the desktop folder under my profile was the top folder (same if i would have selected the c:\ folder).
I have never met this issue and i am using TI since years now !

Thank you for your reply.
The behaviour is exactly the same. I never faced this issue with previous versions...

Hello,
There is the possibility you have some issue with your user profile, and the way shell folders are redirected.
What OS are you using? If this Win 7 or Vista, make sure the "user's file" desktop icon is on the desktop (right click on the destop wallpaper, personalize, change destop icons).
Then double click this icon on the desktop and verify you have the standard folders showing there: desktop, downloads, my documents, my music, my videos, searches, contacts, favorites. Right click on each and look at the location tab. Verify this is making sense.
If this is XP, verify the desktop folder is under c:\documents and settings\youruser. If it is not there, you can use customization tools like Microsoft PowerToys to fix it.

Hi,
I have checked every folder and they all make sense.
I have noticed that when i want to create a new empty task, my folder "Desktop" is already selected partially and when i go to the files within this directory, none are selected !
Further more, i get a brand new issue when backuping "The file cannot be written" and the backup aborts.
How is it possible to have so many issues with this last release ???

There is a bug here. I can reproduce it. Everytime you select desktop in NSB, the entire drive gets selected.

Aaah, thank you ! I am not alone.
For information, my OS is Win 7 64 bits French and I have the last TI 2011 build also in French.

I just bought the product. I have the exact same issue, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (English) and ATIH 2011 build 6669.
Help would be appreciated.

I don't know of any workaround.
By default, Desktop is not checked and creates a problem if you check it.
In my testing, the "trick" is to:
- check desktop, the entire computer gets checked (gasp!)
- uncheck c:\ and/or other drives in the "my computer" hierarchy,
- then check any folder EXCEPT desktop you want or the *top* of the user structure (this will give you a check on "desktop" without selecting the entire computer).
- You can then uncheck/check any other folder you want EXCEPT Desktop.

Are all of you using Domain accounts instead of local user accounts. Support just told me that the reason for my issue is that I'm using a Domain account.
- Accedi per poter commentare

No, nothing to do with LDAP nor Active Directory connection.
Again, I am not a first time user and this is the very first time that I see this bug.
I have checked every hidden files trying to see if nothing was hiding below but nothing new.
I am going to make a new test in a VM to see if I can reproduce the bug but if it is the case, this will be the proof that this is clearly a bug !

I used about an hour and a half with technical support using TeamView. He could clearly see the issue, but since he couldn't find a solution he concluded that this was not a bug but due to the fact that my computer was added to a Windows domain and that I used a domain account.
15 minutes later, I added a local account, logged in with this account but the issue was the same.
To me this is a bug.

So it seems that everyone agrees that this is a bug.
What is the next step now ? Is there any Acronis employee to raise this issue in order to create a patch ?

Since I purchased the product 2 days ago, I have access to free technical support for 30 days.
I have 2 case numbers:
01057895 - The initial chat case that was closed because the support engineer couldn't find a solution (but wouldn't call it a bug)
01057911 - A new case created with technical support yesterday. No answers yet.
I hope this problem is fixed within 20 days, or I will demand a full refund. I didn't expect to be a beta tester. But looking at this forum it shows that it actually could be the case.

Still no answers from Acronis Support about my open case, I found some other software instead.
I tried Cobian, a simple file backup program, and it is all I need right now.
I will request a full refund based on the 30 day money back guarantee. Sad to see the current state of Acronis, it used to be a standard for backup.

In post 8, I detail a workaround to get Desktop checked selected or deselected. I need to add something:
By default, Desktop is half checked and that creates a problem to know what is included or not.
To workaround this:
First, in Windows Explorer, in folder and search options, choose to show hidden files and protected system files,
Second in ATI, during file backup file/folder selection or NBS file/folder selection:
- check desktop, the entire computer gets checked (gasp!)
- uncheck desktop, no folder is now selected,
- if you want to check Desktop:
+ check the folder that is the parent of Desktop, Desktop gets checked
+ uncheck any folder you don't want EXCEPT desktop
- if you don't to check desktop, select any folder you want.

Still no response from Acronis in my technical support case. Instead I have received a reply that my refund was approved.
Acronis have been uninstalled, and Cobian can backup the desktop without any issues. Problem solved!

I've exact the the problem with the desktop folder in file backup. (Win7 Ultimate SP1, ATI Home 2011 Build 6696)
@Pat L: Thanks for your workaround - that helped a lot!
I hope the support will fix this soon.
