Sync Agent Service Error

Thread needs solution

After an upgrade suggested by the software, I'm unable to get cloud backup portion of Acronis TrueImage 2014 to work on my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit system.

The error is always the same-- "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer".

I've tried:
- Restarting the computer
- Running a repair installation
- Uninstalling, Restarting, Re-installing
- Changing the Sync Agent Service to my user (rather the local system, didn't think this would work, but hey-- worth a shot).

If I try to start the `Acronis Sync Agent Service` via services.msc, it fails to run with an error "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified".

I don't have any third-party antivirus or security software running, it's just a pretty plain Win 8.1 Pro installation.

Any help to solve this would be appreciated, as it seems I frustratingly can't contact Acronis' primary support directly without extra payment, even though it was a recommended upgrade.

Look forward to your ideas-- thanks in advance to all those far more knowledgeable then I!

I am not sure here, but it looks like a faulty installation. It looks like you already did the basic uninstall, reboot, reinstall.

I would uninstall, run the Acronis cleanup Utility, reboot and reinstall.

Thanks Pat-- I seem to be having problems with downloading the Acronis Cleanup Utility. I went to the knowledgebase article ( https://kb.acronis.com/content/34876 ) but the link for the 'Download Cleanup Utility' fails to download a file (it links to http://dl.acronis.com/u/support/atih_cleanup_tool_s_e.exe ).

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks again for your help Pat.

This is the download link.

Odd, that file link wasn't working for me, or my friends when I tried-- seems good again now.

So I:
- Ran the uninstall, restarted
- Ran the cleanup, restarted,
- Installed 2014 again.

Unfortunately, I still get the Sync Agent service error. That error is "Windows could not start the Acronis Sync Agent Service service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified"

Can you think of what else to try? Have others got it working with Windows 8.1? The system logs don't have any more detailed information about the service error, do you know if there is a more verbose log anywhere?

Thanks for the suggestions so far

Does executable file that is specified in the properties of the service ("Path to executable") exist ? Can it be started manually? (It won't make it run as a service, it's just a check that it's not corrupted or missing permissions)
