Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer.

Thread needs solution

Hello Anna

Another long-standing bug from 2013 has made it into 2014:

The log shows multiple entries saying "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer". Even though I'm not signed in to Sync and not using Sync.

Please can you confirm QA / Dev are aware of this very old problem.

Hello Grindax,

thank you for your patience.

I've discussed this issue with QA team and have following information for you:

1) "Blocking operation was cancelled" error message (was concerned with heading "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer."  in previous version of the product) was completely removed from logs and shouldn't appear any more. If it does, we will investigate it separately.

2) "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer." most probably means, that Sync Agent cannot function on your system for any reason. In order to check it please do following:

a) delete all logs (in program settings menu select "view logs", then in "Event Log' window click on "delete all" button)

b) restart your computer

c) check logs again

Please let me know the results.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Anna

Thanks for following up with QA.

I have already deleted all logs on the computer concerned several times.

And each time I reboot the PC, I still see both of those 2 error messages appear several times in True Image's event log.

Grindax, thank you for prompt reply!

Could you please check, if Acronis Sync Agent Service (syncagentsrv) is started? If not, please try to start it manually (services.msc) and check in several minutes if it doesn't stop.

Are there any errors concerning Acronis Sync Agent Service in Windows Event Logs?

Thank you!

Hi Anna

All 4 Acronis services are running.

Note that the Acronis Sync Agent Service has, by default, a startup type of 'Automatic (Delayed Start)'.

I've gone through the System log in Windows Event Viewer in detail, around the time of the last reboot. I can see that all 4 Acronis services were stopped successfully when Windows was shut down, and I can see that all 4 Acronis services started successfully after Windows started.

The Acronis Sync Agent Service started 2 minutes after the other 3 Acronis services. This is expected because of its 'Delayed Start' setting.

Going back to the Acronis log, I see that all the errors there are in the time period between when Windows started and the time when the Acronis Sync Agent Service started. So it seems that the problem is that True Image itself is not aware that it should wait a couple of minutes for the Sync service to start.

I've just upgraded from ATIH2013PP to ATIH2014 and I have the same problem. I've already uninstalled and re-installed it without success.

This is so annoying because it is not the first time with problems after an upgrade! ATIH2013 worked quite good on Windows 8 and I haven't expected that ATIH2014 causes more problems.

And of course the error codes aren't found in the KB:
0x019203F5+0x01920023+0x0000FFF0+0x800706BA
0x01A70019

Peter,

Try running a repair install of 2014.

Did you Uninstall 2013 first? You could also try the removal tools to clear out any installation remnants and do a clean fresh install of 2014 without 2013 being installed. This is even possible if your 2014 license is an upgrade license, it will just ask for the key for 2013.

Until Acronis produce the new 2014 specific Cleaner (due soon), I would be careful about using the 2013 cleaner once 2014 has been installed. I would at least make a complete disk image if possible via the recovery CD, just in case.

Hi Anna

Was my additional feedback/analysis yesterday after checking the logs useful to you / QA / Development ?

Repair install and cleanup utility both doesn't help! What's up with "True Image 2014 is fully certified for Windows 8"? It's worse than ATIH2013!
If there is no progress/solution within the next 1-2 days I'll go back to ATIH2013 and claim back my money. I don't have the time and desire to test more things. I need a working backup program.

Do I have to install with right-click -> Run as admin?

@Grindax: Do you really have 4 Acronis services running? I have only 3.

This is correct, however, Acronis stated it 'should' be sometime this week it gets updated. Hopefully that stays true. Once updated for 2014, it would then be a good idea to use it, IMO.

I've uninstalled and re-installed it again. This time with right click -> Run as admin and with AntiVir switched off. No difference.
Then I wondered when and why ATIH switched of UAC. That is not OK!

Then I've uninstalled it again and installed ATIH2013, but I still get errors in the log. Not so much (just the ones with the short code, see post #5), but even a single error is too much.

So I don't have an error free backup program at the moment and I can't get the working one back.

I hope the cleaner will be ready soon and solve the problem.

There needs to be some differentiation between errors codes in the logs and True Image not performing correctly.

It is unfortunate that some error entries are just warnings rather than actual errors and that they tend to cover a wide range of events.

So Peter, does 2014 make images or backups OK, do they verify, can the resulting images be mounted or explored?

At what point in opening and running 2014 does this error message appear, either in a message box or in the log?

Are there any entries with either a warning or error symbol in windows Event Manager?

Has the 2013 Plus Pack been uninstalled?

Do you have other Acronis products installed?

If it is Sync that is causing your problem, where are you synching to? Is your firewall and AV software allowing sync access? Is your internet connection continuous?

First, sorry for the late answer. Sometimes testing needs some time.

1. What I've tested successfully so far: Backup, schedules backup, opening a backup, mounting and verifying.
Yesterday I had a problem with verifying a backup. I think it was caused by renaming a backup.
Today I removed the backup job and the backup file and created a new backup job. Since then it seems to work fine.

2. The error messages appear only in the log, mostly after starting the computer.
I've now logged into my Acronis account, but not created a sync job so far. No I have a new error message:

Rückruf ist nicht registriert. (Callback is not registered.)
0x0192000D

Just like the other codes this one isn't found in the KB. (I think I never had a code that was found there).

3. At the times of the errors there are no warning or error entries in the Windows Event Manager.

4. 2013 Plus Pack: Does it have a separate uninstall? I didn't found it. Maybe it was deleted by the cleaner tool.

5. I don't have other Acronis products installed.

6. I haven't used sync so far.

Let's keep this thread on topic. It's about two sets of error messages that appear in the log between the time of Windows starting and the Sync Agent service starting.

Once the Sync Agent service does start running, the errors in the log cease. I've already highlighted to Acronis that the Sync Agent service is configured by default to 'Delayed Start', so the main True Image application itself should surely expect this and be a bit patient rather than inserting errors into its log file. Now the ball is in Acronis's court, and they should come back with a reply about that.

Hello Everyone!

Grindax, the problem wasn't reproduced in our environment.

Could you please send me system report, so that we continue the investigation?

Thank you in advance!

I note this is an old thread, but I do note that I have the "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer" error in my logs every 5-10 seconds for about 10 occurrences each restart.

This is after an install of 2014 build 5560. This is after a complete remove and re-install.

Can provide system reports etc if useful.

Hello Newton,

thank you for your post!

We will be gald to look into the issue.

I've sent you a PM with instructions and upload link.

Thank you!

I have the same issue having installed ATI 2014, "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer".

Doing so made no difference and my Nonstop backup job won't start. The Acronis Sync Agent Service has started.

Looking at the logs, I also have the same issue having installed ATI 2014, "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer".

I don't even use the sync facility...

Hello Ian, Dave,

Unfortunately the problem is still under investigation.

It would be very helpful, if you can send us logs that I requested in my previous post.

I've sent you private messages with personal upload links.

Thank you in advance!

Ian, make sure that all Acronis services are running in services.msc

Dave, if you don't use the sync feature you can disable the startup of the sync service in services.msc

Hi guys, can you pls keep me in the loop with all this. I upgraded to ATI 2014 last week and have encountered numerous problems ever since including this one which I haven't been able to solve. I never used Sync so I tried disabling it Services but that just seemed to make things worse. Cheers

Going through the logs to take screen shots to go with the system report, the whole thing looks like a mess - apart from the Sync Agent service errors from the True Image console, there are Non-stop backup entries flagged with the red error icon that, when opened, show no errors, and Non-stop backup entries flagged with the green success icon that, when opened, do have errors...

On top of that confusion, most of the log entries are listed in date order, but some are scattered randomly out of date order, which makes it difficult to find all the recent entries and to check whether the backups are regular and up to date.

This is all indicative of poorly designed, poorly implemented, and poorly tested software - not what you want to rely on for system backup.

I'll send in the system report and snapshots of the log entries, but I'm not going to continue using this horrible mess of a backup system.

I have just tried to use TI 2014. I can't get past the start screen, getting the Sync Agent message. All I want to do is run a backup to an external drive, which I have done before very easily with earlier versions of TI. I don't want to sync with anything! Why is this program so counterintuitive?

Needed activating. Why not put a specific message to that effect rather than the Sync Agent nonsense?

Same Problem. For Troubleshooting see attachments.
I think, your customers and users of your software need a very contemporary solution of the problem, concerning many, many users!
Pls. solve this problem and provide a satisfyable solution to your customers. Tks.
It would be eligible to inform about your activities/sulutions regarding this very topic in short periodical intervalls

Hallo kdhbrz

Bei mir hat geholfen ATI 2014 zu deinstallieren, mit dem Acronis Bereinigungstool die Reste entfernen und die Festplatte mit CHKDSK prüfen (vorsorglich). Danach ATI 2014 neu installieren.

http://kb.acronis.com/de/content/36087

Bevor ATI 2014 neu installiert wird, die Temporären Dateien löschen.

For me has helped ATI 2014 uninstall, remove with the Acronis cleanup tool the radicals and check the hard drive with CHKDSK (precaution). Then try ATI 2014 reinstall.

Before ATI 2014 newly installed, delete the temporary files.

Hello to anybody here,

have anyone tried to chance the settings of Acronis Sync Agent Service (syncagentsrv) from startup type 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' to 'Automatic'?
I've tried this few minutes ago and then I restarted my machine. There was no error-entry again in the log of Acronis True Image 2014.

In the Windows-logs wasn't any error-entry in the past, who was caused from Acronis. So it looks it could be a way to solve the phenomenon.

Excuse my terrible english please. Thank you!

Richard Schaller from Bavaria.

Richard,

If you are not using the Sync function, this service can be disabled and TI will still work apart from Sync and Cloud.

If your system starts fine and TI 2014 is happy with Sync set to 'Automatic', then all is well. Some people find their system loads many services at boot time, and sometimes the Sync agent can clash with other services when they start, making it better to have the Sync service start after the other services. As I said, if you have no problems on your system as you now have it set up then all is well.

Hello Everyone,

our QA team has reproduced the issue.

Thank you all for cooperation!

Anna,
so that means that a patch will be issued after having solved the problem?
Tks. for a short feedback.

Hello kdhbrz,

most likely the solution will be available in the next version. But I cannot say anything for sure since I haven't any more precise information yet.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hello Anna,

any news on that? When is a patch available?
One week ago, Sync stopped working on both of my notebooks again. In the past, deleting the "SyncAgent" directory fixed the issue, but now it doesn't help any longer.

Thank you!

Hello Volker,

welcome to Acronis Forum!

The patch will be available in the next product version; the exact date is not available yet.

Could you please copy here the error message that you receive?

Thank you.

Hello Anna,

hm, Sync started working again, but I don't know why ;-)
Some days ago Sync stopped working with a "Sync Agent error. Try to restart your computer". The Sync Agent Service process was up and running.
The error in the logfile was (german):
Sync Agent Service-Fehler. Versuche, den Computer neu zu starten.
Mehr Informationen über diesen Fehler und mögliche Lösungen können online in der Acronis Knowledge Base verfügbar sein.

Hello Anna,

since some time I have problems like Volker in the previous post.
My errror message is however in dutch

it does not happen every morning when I start my PC but most of the time now, I get it working by right klicking the sync systray icon and selecting the start option.

I tried starting a with a whole new Non stop time explorer folder but that does not change the morning error.

I attached the log zip.
What went wrong in time?
