TI 2010 build 7154 - WinPE problem

Thread needs solution

I have updated TI 2010 to the latest build (7154) and have also updated my licensed Plus Pack to the same build. I am running Win 7, 64 bit.

I am unable to create a WinPE ISO. After running the WinPE builder and selecting all the default options I click "Proceed" and get the following error message:

"[Window Title]
winpe_iso.exe

[Main Instruction]
winpe_iso.exe has stopped working

[Content]
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

[Close program]"

Does anyone have any (sensible!) idea why what worked perfectly well with the previous build no longer works with this one?

Hello,

Did you follow all the steps in the help including the installation of this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=696dd665-9f…?

Let me know how it goes. I have encountered some issues with this part on Win 7 Ultimate x64bit

Did you guys have to uninstall v7046 first before installing 7154?

Previous updates installed over the top - but not this one. It needed ATI Home 2010 build 7046 to be uninstalled first.... strange!

I've duplicated your problem. Build 7154 installs the Plus Pack WinPE files in one zip file at C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE\WinPE.zip. I extracted the files and hid the zip file. This created your error.

Did you install the Plus Pack for build 7154 over the top of an existing installation? If you did, you may still have the individual files under C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE\ without the zip file. Just uninstall the Plus Pack and reinstall it to see if you get the zip file. Then try the WinPE builder again.

I do apologise for not replying earlier - I'd given up all hope of a response to my plea for help! Thanks so much for your comments. I'm about to go away for a couple of weeks but will try what you suggest. Yes, I did install the Plus Pack for build 7154 over an existing installation.

Thanks again.

Stephen

Paul, your solution was absolutely spot on. I un-installed the build 7154 Plus Pack and reinstalled it, the zip file appeared and, of course, the ISO build was successful.

Really grateful to you for the solution - happy new year!

Stephen

I was not so lucky with that fix. I have ATI 2011 6597 and I don't get the zip file in the Bart folder. I worked around the problem by copying from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\MediaBuilderHome into the Bart folder. I had to save the files from the Bart folder otherwise some files would be overwritten. A bit of a hassle...
It looks like ATI 2011 is not installing properly the plus pack.

Pat,

Just to be clear, the TI 2011 Plus Pack did not use a zip file. Build 7154 of TI 2010 is the first release to use this zip file approach.

I'm not sure where your files should be since it looks like you have a 64 bit system. Maybe one of the other members with a 64 bit system will let you know.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. I found out that the files should be in the Bart/files folder, but that the Acronis Plus Pack installer put them in the wrong folder.
So I took all the files of
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\MediaBuilderHome
and copied them into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE\Files
With that the WinPE builder can complete.
It looks like an installer issue of the Plus Pack.

As far as I know, it's using the C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE\ files.

The "MediaBuilderHome" folder does not contain BartPE or WinPE files. It contains files for creating the standard Linux boot media.

I will try again and report back with screen shots.

Well, I will take it back. It appears the fix worked.

I had to reinstall the WAIK and rebuild anyway because I had lost what I did the first before burning the disk (I was trying try&decide and I discarded the changes...)

Anyway, the only difference between this time and the previous is that I uninstalled and reinstalled the Plus Pack.

This time everything went smoothly and I couldn't reproduce the file issues I had the first time.

Strange. I just tested the CD I successfully created above, and it seems that everytime I run the WinPE media builder, I get a different behavior:

- for the first run above, going through the wizard, I selected the winpe/iso directory and I went straight to creating the CD. I didn't see the choice ISO versus WIM, and I didn't select the location for the AcronisMedia.iso file. That CD didn't work because when I used to boot, it told me "couldn't find NTDLR"

- so I went ahead and created another CD. This time, going through the wizard, I selected the winpe/iso directory, I could select the ISO option, I could specify the target location, clicked proceed and the process looked different: it first mounted a WIM, did the build, then unmounted the WIM. The first time, I didn't see that WIM part. That CD is working fine.
