TI 2013, cant exlude dirs or files
Hello, I'm using the TI 2013 Trial version. It served me very well when I used image backup to replace my windows boot drive. So I'm really interested in buying this product. But - I am totally unable to exclude directories and/or files when running File Backup on my other drives. Since I store large amounts of dvd backup files it is totally useless to me unless I can exclude things.
Am I missing something or is there an issue here? I know this has been discussed in other threads but I cant get the offered solutions there to work so I gotta ask again. Is it a bug that will be fixed? I really cant use it for file backup atm.

Hmm, I tried excluding *.r0* and it did not work

I don't know if it recognizes wild cards in the extension, as in *.r0*.
I know for sure that wildcard before extension works, as in *.mp3, *.flac, *.avi

Well, that doesn't help much, it means I would basicly have to make one rule per dvd...

Kjetil,
Did you remake the task each time you tried making the exclusions, editing an existing task to take a new exclusions mask won't work.

OK thank you, guess I have to wait for some fixes then... I really cant recreate backup jobs every time I find a new file I want to exclude. I need the subdir exclusion really. But thanks for your help!

Hello Colin (et al),
Pardon me for jumping in. In your post I read
Did you remake the task each time you tried making the exclusions, editing an existing task to take a new exclusions mask won't work.
Is that a bug of a feature? If a bug, has it been reported and is it goung to be fixed? And, if it is a featire, where is it documented? I just losdt a few hours of my time because a backup, that used to take 200 GB on TI 2010 on my Win 7 System now creates a 600 GB backup file ob my TI 2013 Build 5551 on my Win 8 System.
Not only does the volume backup take much longer than planed, it also overflows all my storage estimates and that really poses a problem.
One set of files to be excluded e.g. is the directory D:\DATA\AUDIO, in the log ist says (It in German, The first few words translate to : Files excluded via file mask:
Durch Ausschlussmaske erfasste Dateien Passendes Kriterium: *.tib, *.tmp, *.~, D:\Temp\, D:\TMP\, D:\Data\Downloads\OSM\, d:\Data\Garmin\Lmu Maps\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NT 2010.20.gmap\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NT 2013.30.gmap\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\Openfietsmap Lite\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\TOPO Deutschland 2010.gmap\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\TOPO Deutschland v3.gmap\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\Velomap_DE\, d:\Data\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NT 2013.40.gmap\, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache.dat, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache.dat.index, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache1.dat, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache1.dat.index, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache2.dat, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache2.dat.index, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache3.dat, d:\Data\GoogleEarth\dbCache3.dat.index, d:\Data\MagicMaps\, d:\Data\Acronis-pe\, D:\Data\Audio\, D:\Data\Audio_LQ\, d:\Data\Lightroom\Exports\, d:\Data\Mathematica_9\
But all the files in the D:\AUDIO directory and it s subdirectory are backed up.
As you can see, there are a lot of directories to be excluded. Those are static files and I have a separate file backup job for those. Excluding by dataset maks (like *.WMA) doesn't help, because there are other WMA files elsewhere which I Do want to be backed up.
With kind regards from a flabbergasted long time Acronis user (true image Version 8 or earlier since now)

I think I'm having a similar issue. I created a file backup that included portions of "My Documents". I ran out of room on my target device, then discovered True Image 2013 had selected my entire "My Documents". I changed the backup back to just the files I wanted backed up, and had the same problem. Then I decided to create a separate backup for the files in My Documents and had the same problem. I cannot get TI2013 to backup just part of My Documents.
I don't have this problem with other folders. The initial backup had "My Contacts" and "My Favorites" and it worked fine. I do wonder though what would happen if if tried to just back up, for example, some of My Favorites, or some sub directories in other folders.
I have had this issue with previous versions of True Image. That is, it will only backup the entire My Documents.

I wonder if issues arise because "My Documents" is not a real directory. It's a pointer to the real documents location. Perhaps you'd do better than to specify the actual documents directory and choose what you want backed up there, rather than using the My Documents pointer/alias.

Great idea, but same result. I just created a new backup with the path "C:\user\...\My Documents" and selected the sub folders in My Documents I wanted to backup. Same problem. TI2013 tried to backup all of My Documents and ran out of room. Thanks though.
