TI Home 2012: NonStop BackUp stops by itself

Thread needs solution

The nonstop backup stops randomly and never restarts. I don't think a backup tool should behave this way - it must protect data at all cost!
I see nothing in the log. The service is up.
What is wrong and how to fix it?

Hi Michael,
I see you have purchased a separate disk to use specifically with NSB. Please keep the following in mind. When NSB is protecting a non-system partition, it checks for file changes on the protected disk and not unsaved changes in memory. It will not run until a significant amount of data changes.

Please review section 3.6 on page 46 and NSB FAQ's section 3.6.4 on page 51 for futher clairification.

Hi,

Yes, I did but I don't want to use it that way. I want to convert my RAID1 into RAID5 (and the disk I bought was intended for this purpose).
I have only one partition which I want to backup nonstop. I just see that last backup point was more than 12 hours ago. I don't believe that none of the files were changed.
Also I see a message that nonstop backup is stopped and the "stop" button is active on the task's tab.

How I can remove it and start from scratch? I won't allow neither delete (backup file is unavailable) nor remove it from the list (just does nothing).

Michael,

Not clear what direction we are going in? You purchased a spare drive to convert RAID 1 to 5? How does this relate to using NSB?

Conversion 1 > 5 needs to occur either through the storage controllers RAID Configuration Utility or by restoring an image to a newly created array. Challenges might include the Config Utility's ability to migrate and/or your ability to change the operate mode of the controller and successfully boot with the OS configured to use a RAID mirror in a RAID 5 set up. Thats another topic.

In order to "start from scratch" with NSB, the service itself needs to be paused. Use the gear icon in the NSB window to select STOP. The Edit menu option allows you to make changes to the existing back up configuration while the Clean option allows you to delete previous back ups to increase the space available for back up storage.

Very simple. Instead of converting my storage to RAID5 I end up with using a new disk as a single share for nonstop backup only (and without any redundancy). All is because of bugs in TIH. Very disappointed.

I cannot delete a nonstop backup. It won't allow me "clean", "delete", "remove from the list".

That makes sense.  Have you paused or stopped the service before attempting to remove or edit the configuration?

Also, please see post #29 in This Thread MVP Pat L offers optional ways to use the product depending on your needs.

It stopped by itself and I couldn't started it again. This is the reason I want to delete everything and start over.

Nonstop backup has been problematic for quite some time. Acronis is continuing to try to get it working reliably in the 2013 version. Search the forums for issues which others have encountered. The worst part of the problem is that when it stops, you will have to notice it for yourself by the system tray icon being missing. The log files erroneously indicate that nothing is wrong, unless you expand the log file message line to see it is not working. It's unfortunate, because the previous version function is not working, resulting in data loss.

I have noticed that. I also have corrupted regular backups I was relied upon. For now I'm very disappointed with this product.
What other backup solution is on the market can be considered as good and reliable?

I haven't looked into other products, but you can find other recommendations in the Acronis forums. My main reasons for selecting Acronis are its ability to perform a bare metal recovery (all new hardware, while being able to recover all of my software without having to reinstall my applications with my preferences/customizations), and nonstop backup.

Nonstop backup has been problematic for longer than I feel it should be, but I and others have been actively working with Acronis to find the problems and test solutions. I would prefer a little bit more transparency from them, but that might cause issues with their intellectual property.

I believe their handling of the bugs I've reported can be improved, but I have no insight into their QA procedures to suggest what they might do.

I would suggest expanding each log file line and look for any errors. Each log file line is a summary and may not indicate that an error has occurred. If you post a few screen shots showing any errors, it will help. Also, a description of your OS and hardware can help.
