TI Standard 2014 causing Windows 8.1 Pro to lock up

Thread needs solution

Have the standard version of TI 2014. I had been using an OEM version on Windows 7 prior.

I did a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro, then upgraded to 8.1. Installed all my programs like I had before (nothing was transferred, all fresh installs) including McAfee total protection.

Acronis TI and McAfee were fine on my Windows 7 system, never had an issue.

Now with 8.1 everything is running perfect excluding Acronis. Without Acronis installed there are no issues, been using the system for weeks. As soon as Acronis is installed I get:

Entire system crawls to a halt.
Browser will not load web pages.
Explorer windows will freeze and refuse to close.
Acronis can try to create backups but just gets stuck at "creating backup image" and it never creates any files on the HDD.

This behavior continues even when Acronis is not run... as long as it is installed it causes this. As soon as it is uninstalled the entire system goes back to running perfectly.

I have disabled McAfee during install and when trying a backup, it makes no difference.

Any suggestions? I like ATI but these are some pretty serious issues.

This link lists all processes and services of the TI 2014 and TI 2015 apps. I would recommend excluding everything in the list except trueimagehomenotify.exe, mediabuilder.exe, uninstall.exe, in your McAfee product. That should prevent McAfee from halting True Image.

By your description I would not think that the issue is with Windows User Account Control however I am providing a link that describes how Windows 8 UAC works and how to change its behavior which is different than Windows 7.

Hope this helps.

Apparently it is some conflict between Acronis, Windows 8.1 and Crucial's MX100 SSD drive. Found a few articles on it. Even after updating the SSD firmware it does not work.... which is kind of insane considering the MX100 comes with Acronis OEM.

It has nothing to do with McAfee. So it is a bit misleading to give Acronis with the MX100 and also state Acronis is 8.1 certified as the two obviously do not work together. I guess the boxed version that I just registered is completely wasted since I can't even use it now.

Yes the Crucial MX series drives do have an issue with TI 2015. Fortunately there is a fix that is available on a user interest only level. To give the fix a try send a private message to Anna Trifonova at the link below. In the subject line enter Crucial MX100 Snapman and in the message field indicate that you have a Crucial MX100 SSD and would be interested in trialing the newly released Snapman.api because of lock problems you are experiencing with your machine. You can also reference me if you would like. Please be a bit patient as Anna is a very busy person.
