TIH 2011 - All backup attempts fail

Thread needs solution

I recently upgraded to TIH 2011 from 2010. BIG mistake. Had I just left everything along and not tried to change anything, it might be OK. I'm running Win7 Home Premium on a Core i3 with 4Gb of RAM. I'm backing up to an external USB drive (have been for years). Here are the problems I'm seeing:

1. I changed the time that a scheduled backup was to run. Or so I thought. When I clicked on Run Now (which I did several times as I got no indication that it has started) I got messages indicating that it could not run using the supplied credentials. This is the same backup that I had been running with no problems under TIH 2010.

2. I can't find where I can insert or change the credentials being used for a local backup. Nothing in the help file either.

3. I'd like to use the version chain backup but for less than 6 months. There doesn't appear to be anywhere to change this. I'd also like to specify how the versions are denoted - not the long funky file names that 2010 used.

4. Does anyone know if the problems with ASZ have been fixed in 2011? It used to take me HOURS to just browse the ASZ. Gave up and just deleted it and went back to standard files.

Error screenshot attached. If anyone knows how to resolve any of this, I'd really appreciate it! Otherwise, I'm going back to 2010.

Susan,
In general:
You will have much better success with your tasks if you were to create them new. You jumped from an older version to a newer version and they are not alike in so many ways. Create new tasks and much of problems will disappear.

You should be able to create your desired backup file retention by using the Custom scheme. Be sure and click on the "Automatic consolidation settings" ( on the custom scheme page) to see if they are applicable. I personally prefer to flexibility of using Chain2Gen for controlling my backup retention although 2011 is much better at that than 2010.

Cannot comment about the Secure zone issue as I have never used it . I have used TI from version 8, 9, 10.11,2009, 2010, and now 2011 and have never felt the need or desire to use it. There are situations where the zone can be helpful and more power to those to understand its benefits and overcome its limitations. I store ore my backups in multiple places/multiple drives. To often, some secure zone users forget that if they zone is on the same hard drive and drive fails, the backups are lost. Or, the zone has problems and backups are not readily accessible.

I do not have the capability of reading your 2007 word docx document. If it is simply a picture, why not attach the picture.

Sorry about the docx file - old habits die hard. I've attached a png file instead. I did end up reinventing the wheel by creating a new backup. The sad part is that the way I had it set up in 2010 apparently is no longer an option in 2011. I too have been using the products about as long as you have - the last two versions have forced me to create new backups each time. I'll check out Chain2Gen when I have time to play with it. Thanks!

I have seen the 1326 error once before and it had to do with my passwords but I am not certain whether the problem was the password protect backups issue or the windows creditional issue. Anyway, my fix was to create the task again being very careful to not make any typos ini the password and the issue went away.
