TIH-2011 Security Credentials for destination drive

Thread needs solution

I am unable to get past the security dialog when setting a backup destination which is an external drive attached to another system on my network.

I have installed TrueImageHome 2011 on my wife's new Dell Latitude with Win7 Home Premium. I have been trying to set up a backup to an external disk connected by USB to my Dell XPS desktop running Win7 Home Premium.

When I tried to specify the destination, TIH asked for my ID and PW on the DELL Desktop. However, I had no password on my desktop. Since the "Connect" button would not become available until I entered both a user name and password, I could not get any further.

I can access the destination drive via CMD by using \\dell-xps\... and create files and delet them. So the Latitude has full access to the desired destination drive via the network.

I tried setting up a backup of my Dell Inspiron laptop to the same drive and it worked fine, HOWEVER, I have TIH 2010 on my Inspiron.

I also tried setting up a password on my Dell XPS, but when I entered my username and password in the Destination security dialog, I still could not connect.

I am looking for any explanations of TIH's behavior and any suggestions that will allow me to set up a backup for my wife.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using a home group?
In "change advanced sharing settings", is "use user accounts and passords to access other computers" selected?

Yes, I'm using a home group.

Both systems have Pass Word Protected Sharing turned off. I also have selected "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections" instead of "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers."

Thanks for the suggestion. That could have been my problem.

Which selection is preferred? a) Allow windows to manage or
b) Use user accounts and passwords>

Use user accounts and passwords. See if this solves your problem.
