TIH 2013 very strange backup failure
TIH 2013 build 6514. Win 7 Ult 64. i7.
Working just fine for months. Backing up an SSD to an internal HDD. Full + 5 incrementals. Keep 2 version chains. Every Wed. 6 AM.
Today it didn't do its regularly scheduled backup. Instead it showed a backup made at the expected time to "\". No drive letter, nothing else in the path. That backup doesn't actually exist that I can find.
The "normal" backup showed as not done.
I ran it manually, which seemed to work. It did a full backup (should have been incremental) and named it M4-CT256M4SSD2_full_b8_s1_v1-2.tib which is the same as the previous full backup with the addition of "-2". _When complete it deleted all the existing incremental backups but left the two full backups_. Where did that come from????
As a test I immediately ran another manual backup which seemed to run as expected and made an incremental: M4-CT256M4SSD2_inc_b8_s2_v1.tib I can't tell which this incremental is based on - the ...tib or ...-2.tib.
I guess the question is does anyone have any idea why the usually fine backup went insane this time? And how best to clean up and make sure things are running as they should be.
Thanks much.

Here are the requested snips - I hope.
The storage folder had incrementals for the prior full backups that all disappeared when I ran a manual "backup now".
The "M4-..." is my active running backup. The others are old entries from other things. It's the M4 that failed but showed up as a phantom backup to "\". Unfortunately I can't show that one - I had already deleted it :(
Thanks,
Bill

I am not sure what has happened here. What I have seen before with the v1-2 appearing was
1. Following a restore and the v1 was what was restored. or,
2. When a new task was created but but the same backup name and backup folder was retained. or
3. Perhaps a configration change made by a task edit.
If it were me, you really do not know what is ncluded in the 1-2. I would stop using the task.
Create a new task and point the new task to a new sub-folder whereever you want. I do not mix backups from different folders.
When setting up the new task, you may have an interest in link 2 below, illustation 11-Inc inside that link. The illustration shows the backup scheme for full+inc when automatic cleanup is used.

Thanks for the feedback.
I hadn't touched any settings of any kind or made any other backups or run a restore, so no idea what was going on.
When I launched TIH this time to run the validation, it crashed :( 2nd time it ran. I don't think I can trust the program or the backups at this point. I'll re-install and create a new backup task.
Thanks again,
Bill
