Trial download problem - 30 days just flashed by!

Thread needs solution

I have just downloaded the trial version of this product and on trying to run it for the first time I get a message to say this is a 30 day trial version and immediately below it is another message saying that the trial period has expired. Wow, that was a quick 30 days! Bit concerning when this software is marketed as the solution to computer problems when it can't even count up to 30....mmmmmmmmmm!

Have you had a trial version installed previously or altered the system time and date at all? Even if it is just a Summer Time versus Winter time change.

Hi Colin - this was the first download of the program. Funnily I did change the "Date and Time Properties" yesterday but I am pretty sure they were back to the correct settings when I did the download. It would be a bit strange if the program was sensitive to your own PC's date and time settings as then, by judicious manipulation of these settings, you might be able to extend the trial time indefinitely - now there's a thought!

Uninstalled the trial version of the program and reinstalled and got same problem with an immediately expired trial and in the meanwhile got a serious Windows error on restart - so it is Goodbye Acronis - it wasn't nice to know you!

I can think of other software that gets quite pernickety if the time/date is changed whilst it installed, so much so one embedded compiler program won't actually allow it's trial version to be installed again - ever! A little drastic in trying to stop people moving the date backwards, but there you go.

I'm not saying this was the problem, but registry will need to be scrubbed and any entries in 'Common Files' left over will need to be removed.

What was the Windows error that you received?

What OS are you using?

If you managed to play with TI at all, did you set up a Secure Zone or activate the Startup Manager? These two utilities can cause Windows to get upset if they are not removed correctly when TI is uninstalled and re-installed. They should be deactivated before uninstalling.

Hi Bodgy - thanks for your interest - I didn't take details of the Window error but it was a lot of large white type on a blue background (always worrying) and was reported as a serious Windows error.

I simply want a background program which "backs up" in the background and gives me no bother -I don't want to spend any time at all coaxing a recalcitrant program to work for me. So when a trial program won't even allow me to look at it I am already moving on to an alternative program.

It worries me that so many people have problems with backup programs when their PCs are working properly, but are expected to have this blind faith that the restore facilility will work seamlessly when their PCs have problems. To paraphrase an old saying "if it won't work when it ain't broke, it's unlikely to work when it is".

It also worries me that programs such as Acronis and Norton Ghost leave "debris" behind when they are uninstalled - this suggest sloppy programming to me - and that is just what you don't want when you are relying on a program to rescue you.

If you jump the date forward in your clock it will normally mess up the trial, just be careful.
