True Home 2012 Plus Installation Fails to complete

Thread needs solution

I have been using the 2010 version of Acronis True Home and it has worked flawlessly for me. I had purchased the 2012 PLUS version last fall (9/2012) and I am now trying to install it. According to the instructions included in the box, I do not have to first uninstall the current (2010) version. After loading the disk into the DVD drive and the first screen is displayed, I select the first item which is to install "Acronis True Image 2012". Since the install process determines that there is a more current version that is what on the disk, I choose to download the newest version of the software. Once it is downloaded, I choose to install this software. I enter the very loooong product key that is listed on the back of the envelop the software disk is packaged in. The installation process begins and, according to the status bar, is almost completed. This is where the installation process seems to stall out and nothing else happens. After letting the pc run the install process for more than 3 hours and never seeming to finish, I have to force a shutdown to get out of this state. When I boot up again, Windows fails to start and I am forced to restore my boot drive from a clone backup that I have taken. Since I have previously cloned my boot drive with the 2010 version, I have this available and use this to restore my system back to the state before I began to install the 2012 PLUS version. I have done this three times and keep getting the same result.

Any suggestions on what the problem is? This is a WIN XP workstation that has ALL Microsoft maintenance installed that Microsoft has available (100% of the maintenance is installed). I am wanting to use the 2012 PLUS version so that I can backup my data that resides on a striped (RAID 0) array. Once I get this data backed up I can then restore it onto a WIN 7 workstation.

The True Image 2012 PLUS version has never been installed on any other PC and the product key is valid.

I would uninstall ATI and Plus Pack (listed under "P"), then run the Cleanup Utility.

Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility for 2010-2014: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876

I downloaded and ran the Cleanup Utility to remove the 2010 version of ATI. I followed the instructions as stated on the Acronis website and made sure that there were no Registry entries leftover from the old version. I then used the ATI 2012 PLUS disk to install the new version. Since there was a newer version that could be downloaded rather than installing the version on my disk, I opted for this. After the download finished I proceeded with the install of the software. Once again, the installation process seems to stop (hang) before completing. In order to get out of this situation I have to force a shutdown of the system and then reboot. The installation of the 2012 base product never does successfully complete. As a result, when I attempt to install the PLUS pack, this fails since there is no 2012 version found on the system. Before I ever attempted to install the 2012 version, I used the 2010 version to clone my boot drive. To put the system back to it's original state where I have a working version of ATI (ATI 2010) I clone from my external hard drive back to my boot drive. I have done this 4 times and never have been successful at installing the 2012 version along with the PLUS pack.

Any suggestions on what to do next?
