True Image Home 2010: Build 4942 is latest available; won't work with Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I am a novice user of True Image Home 2010. I have used it to clone my drive in Windows XP. That is my rather unsophisticated form of backup. I now have a new computer running Windows 7. As I am sure you know, both the Microsoft website and this one say that Home 2010 is compatible with Windows 7. I tried the workaround (change name of program from True Image in both the applications and registry). The program says that the disk has been successfully cloned. However the new (backup) disk will not boot. I can, however, view the data files on the new disk when I boot from the old disk (I use a C and D drive partition setup). I am using build 4942, which is the latest build available on the Acronis website. Finally, my questions:

1. Is there a way to get Home 2010, build 4942 to work with Windows 7?

2. Do I need a later build to make it work?

3. If I need a later build, how do I get it?

I will appreciate any help you can provide.

I made a mistake. I do not have TI 2010. I have TI 10. I have not yet checked its compatibility with Win 7, but assume that I will find that it is not compatible. I hope that I have not wasted anyone's time. Assuming that I cannot use TI 10 with Win 7, does TI Home 2011 work well with Win 7. I am running Win 7 Home Edition on my reconfigured computer. I will appreciate any advice you can provide as to which product I should buy.

TI V10 is not compatible with Win 7. You will need either TI 2010, if you can find it, or TI 2011 the latest.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. For some reason I cannot find the Acronis Win 7 compatibility schedule at the moment. I think I will just download the upgrade to TI 2011. I was a bit hesitant about doing that due to some negative comments I have seen about 2011. However, it appears that that is my best option.

Thanks again for your help.

There is a link that explains how to make it work http://forum.acronis.com/forum/5908 but there is no guarantee.

I did find that link and tried that method. The program ran and said that the clone was successful. The computer recognized both drives. I could read the data off the cloned drive's D (data) partition. However, the cloned drive would not boot. I also noticed that the shortcut on my desktop for the program did not bear the Acronis symbol. It was the generic type of icon that one gets when a file extension is incorrect (there is probably a comuter term for that but I don't know it). Since I am not knowledgeable about computers I decided to not go any further trying to get TI 10 to work. The main reason I wanted to try to use TI 10 other than convenience and to save a few bucks was due to the negative comments I had read about later versions. In any event I upgraded to TI Home 2011, installed it and recloned the disk. All worked well. I can now boot from either drive.

Thanks for taking the time to give me the link and suggestion.
