True Image Home 2010 New User Error (0x0) Tag = 0x0

Thread needs solution

I purchased True Image Home 2010 and Western Digital Elements EHD 1TB 2 days ago so that I could ensure my computer was backed up properly but I have run into a problem when trying to use the Acronis One Click Backup.

I read the online manual for True Image 2010 and it said that the external hard drive should be formatted to NTFS so that any backups did not backup in chunks of 4gb.

I went to the Western Digital website and followed the instructions to format the hard drive (no manual was supplied with the disc) and then went to One Click Backup.

I got an error message:-

(0x0) Tag = 0x0

I have searched this forum and have seen this error appear on posts but can't find a solution.

I have tried to find a support number for Acronis and can only find the "pay support" but as this is a new item I should be receiving 30 days free support.

I am running for the first time the True Image Backup and it seems (fingers crossed) to be going through as I'm typing this so I presume that this will backup everything including the operating system on on my computer should the worst happen.??

I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this error, confirmation that backup will be backing up the important information, and a contact number for Acronis. The only number I can find is the corporate number.

Many thanks in advance.

use email support and hope they answer you ; as a new user , you should get some support

Hi,

I have the trial version of this and I have the same problem. The response to my going through the Support line is ... we don't support the trial product. I got the trial as a prelude to buying it. If this is their response to potential buyers ... !!

Is this a general problem for first time users of the One Click process? If it is, believe me, I'm not interested in paying for a duff product.

Does anyone have any help on this error?

Thanks, from someone who would hate to give their money to Symantec but who is being slowly forced in that direction by Acronis themselves.

Hi,

I have the same problem.

I just upgraded from True Image Home 2009 to True Image Home 2010. This was a purchase not a trial version. I purchased this in preparation for upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista Premium. I even rebuilt my Vista operating system and had only installed windows Vista updates, McAfee Security Center and True Image Home 2009. I have a WD external hard drive (reformatted to NTFS) and I was able to backup to and restore from the WD drive with 2009 version. I will be contacting support tomorrow. If I find an answer I'll post here.

(0x0)
Tag = 0x0

that´s what I get when starting "Acronis One-Click Backup". Can anyone help to fix this problem?
This appeared after approx. two weeks and appr. new starts of Windows 7.

thanks
Werner (Munich)

I got the same problem with Windows XP prof. after an upgrade from Acronis True Image Home 2009 to 2010

So, what?

I just bought the product and have the same problem. Does anyone on the board (moderator, etc) have the answer?

I also have the error... I can see that Acronis may have had a great solution at one time but if they do not respond to people having errors and they continue to want money to support the broken software they will get noting but bad reviews from me, I just went out and bought another backup solution and acronis is being removed and my support site for my software will recomend not using Acronis... Thanks for the wasted money all...

I purchased the full version of True Image 2010 yesterday and received the (0x0) Tag = 0 x 0 message the first time I tried to use the One Click. Obviously, I'm not happy. Our IT manager suggested I try out True Image and let him know what I think. Unless I can work this out very, very soon he won't want to hear what I have to say.
I should not have to pay for any support from True Image on a product that crashes right out of the box.
Has anyone heard anything from True Image on this issue?

everyone is focused on one click backup.
do you get the same issue going the traditional route of
"tasks" / "create task" / .....
then let job run from schedule or click the task and then "start"

I'm running a back up from the Create Task feature now. It seems to be backing up correctly, however, the back up I had scheduled for Sunday night indicates that it "failed".
If this manual back up works I need to decide if I'm OK with an application where SOME of the features work.
I see from postings from Acronis that they realize that their customer support is running slow and they've added staff. Let's see how long it takes for them to respond to threads regarding this issue.

No clue what is going with your system but it sounds like your easiest solution is to delete the task that didn't work, take the working manual task right click task and change its schedule to what you want. sit back and enjoy the automated unattended backups.

Reassured to see plenty of other people with the same problem. When is Acronis going to give us the solution to their One Click Backup problem?

Try This:
Open Acronis True Image
Go Tools and Utilities
Click One-Click backup in Protection Tools
Make One backup
After One-click backup on the desktop work for me.

This Acronis True Image system has been given rave reviews. Indeed I just backed up my entire C drive to an external hard drive using the USB port. I then wanted to try the other features and clicked on the icon and got the (0,0) message. It was then I read all the above negative comments. I empathize with those who bought the product but I will not do the same. I will get Norton's Ghost. This is a shame as the Acronis product seems to have all the features one could ask for. A simple visit to the complaint blog by a company techie would probably clear up the problem.

Not sure if this is the same problem the error I get says:
Details: Operation with partition 'D:' was terminated.
Details: Failed to create volume snapshot. (0x70021) Tag = 0xA5695862AAF8E626 Failed to lock the volume and create a snapshot. (0x102007) Tag = 0x14181C22EF45ACC7

Bottom line is True Image worked OK but upgrade to 2010 is broken. I tried to revert to2009 but it failed. Tried the Live Chat but problems seemed to get worse. Answered the email from support asking if the Chat ticket was resolved, but no answer yet.

I installed the new SnapAPI drivers linked on one of the threads dealing with Windows 7 hanging with build 6029. I can now backup my system. The Nonstop Backup problem isn't fixed though.

Dear customers,

First of all, let me apologize for the delay in this thread. I really understand that this is a critical issue. Furthermore, it appears to be the common one. We haven't attended this case in time due to high volume, but for now I can assure you that this issue will be addressed.

I have the trial version of this and I have the same problem. The response to my going through the Support line is ... we don't support the trial product. I got the trial as a prelude to buying it. If this is their response to potential buyers ... !!

Debra, you are entitled for support during your trial period. And you will be able to submit a web form with your request. I'm sorry for inconvenience you experienced.

As far as I understand, this error occurs when you're clicking on One Click Backup icon on your desktop, is that correct? Does the backup process start?

Right after I've found this thread, I have consulted with our Expert Team. This issue has been escalated to our QA team and we're trying to reproduce it. For now - they are not able to do so. Personally I have tried to run One Click Backup on my own PC - started fine (was done right after fresh install). So to make a progress we must reproduce this situation in our lab, to escalate it to Developers for fixing.

Could you please assist us and collect some additional information from your PC's?

Please do the following in order to collect the information:

1. Acronis Information
- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

2. Event Logs:
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer

Please right-click the entries for System and Application and select 'Save log files as..'. Then please save the files as .evt and send to us compressed using .zip.

3. User Rights Assignment:

Start -> Run -> issue "secpol.msc" without quotes; open Local policies -> right click on User rights assignment  -> Export list; then save a file in .txt format

4. Process Monitor Log:

Please perform the following operations:

- Download the Process Monitor tool.

- Run it and agree with the license agreement.

- Run Acronis program and reproduce the problem

- Open File->Save and save log file (Logfile.PML), compress it.

NOTE: please open the application right before reproducing the issue, and close it as soon as it's reproduced and log is saved, it will help us to collect log without useless information.

Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the issue appears and the link to this thread. Provide us with the case number you received here, so I can speed up the process. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.

James, this issue is related to SnapAPI drivers malfunction. It can be resolved to downloading the newest version of SnapAPI (503). Here's the link to download the update.

Please install the above update with disabled logging and see whether the issue persists.

I'd like to make sure all your queries regarding Acronis products are resolved.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

or just schedule the backup and wait till it is in the queue and when the time has PASSED for the backup to start just eject your external hard drive and then reconnect. It will show something you haven't seen before!! NOTE: you have to be able to see schedule tasks in TI to pull this off. When your backup is done you will have full control of One Click. Really this one will work!!! You may have to try it a couple of times to get the feel of what is going on. I have spent numerous days trying to fix this with no help from anyone. I thought that I have seen that type of error before then in dawned on me that the structure of the error was similar to a USB stack problem that I was having. Guess how my external hard drive is connected to my computer? If you guess USB then you are right!! That was a clue for tech team and not a slam against you all!!!

Post Scriptum

I have never seen software that has provided as many opportunities to become a "purchased Beta tester" as this one3 has. I have literally replaced every major function of this software at the direction of the TI Techs assigned to monitor this forum. Actually by proxy because I never talked to a tech (just to be fair!!)

I elected to use this software because I was so impressed with it BEFORE I migrated to Windows 7. It works great as a migrated program. Then the 30 days ran out. At that point I opted to use the Windows 7 backup. There wasn't enough flexibility with that because I am a maniac with my computer. MY fault but my use should be met regardless.

So to all of you, to include myself, that have beta tested this with your own time after paying should really ask Acronis one question. Are you really going to charge me for this?

I also have this problem. I downloaded the SnapAPI driver recommended by Acronis but this did not correct the problem. I have not yet tried starting Acronis without using the one-click shortcut, but that is my next step. I have to say this does not inspire confidence in a program so critical as backup.

First time after installing TI2010 on the system running window 7 pro, click on "one-click backup" it comes up with an error message: (0x0) Tag = 0x0.
Is there a fix for this? Please, help.!

Hello all,

Thank you for posting, I will do everything possible from my side to provide you with the explanations.

Our QA Team has failed to reproduce the issue, and we need the files requested by Alexander in post #18 for a further troubleshooting.

If you are unable to submit a request to Acronis Customer Service Department because of the expired support license, please send me a  Private Message after collecting the files, I will create an account on our FTP server.

So to all of you, to include myself, that have beta tested this with your own time after paying should really ask Acronis one question. Are you really going to charge me for this?

We have a special program for beta testing (if someone wants to join the program, please refer to this page). Beta testers are usually customers or prospective customers of the organization that develops the software. They receive the software for free or for a reduced price, but act as free testers.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

I am also having the same problem. I've already done manual backups of my numerous partitions, and I figured I would try the One Click to see how it worked on a spare backup drive.
I bought Acronis because I had problems with Casper working with my USB ports, both on my old system and my brand new one. The trial version I used of Acronis 2009 worked great, so I purchased 2010.

I do not buy software to troubleshoot it. I don't steal software either, and I expect a company to respect that by putting out a working product.

If the Acronis "Expert Team" can't reproduce this error, why are so many people posting to this thread? Perhaps they need more expertise.

And here's another little gem: when I click on the help icon, I get the error message "the windowname "Mainwin???" passed to HH_GET_WIN_TYPE has not been specified". This happens twice, then the help screen comes up.

Acronis, I'm not getting paid to debug your software. I have the latest update. Get it working, or offer a refund. I'm using Win XP Pro (not exactly a new OS) with SP3 on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H board with 4 gigs of RAM and an AMD triple core processor. I'm attaching the AcronisInfo.zip file, but I'm not wasting any more time than that.

Same thing here, Win7, upgrade to TI2010, but I was able to backup following Jack's message #15 method. Will see how Acronis handles this.

Russell Alexander wrote:

That's exactly my opinion, too. I wasted about one day to try this and try that and didn't succeed. Now I'll waste another day to save all the files changed since my last TI 2009 backup, erase my HDD, restore my TI 2009 backup (successfully I hope!) and restore the needed difference files manually.

The customer reviews of Amazon.com are very interesting: http://www.amazon.com/Acronis-True-Image-Home-2010/product-reviews/B002…

i bought a new toshiba laptop with win7 home and upgraded to pro version. I bought true image home 2010 and installed it. then checked for updates as instructed and installed them. the true image home software worked excellant for 2 weeks untill tonight.

i remember starting 1 click backup by accident and started a backup when i wanted actually to back up a few folders instead, realizing my error
i cancelled the backup and exited and it hasnt run since. hope this helps. it worked till i did this.

Hello all,

I understand the inconvenience you experienced and I'm sorry for that.

We understand that this issue is critical and it occurs on many computers. But there's one fact: we won't be able to reproduce it in our testing lab without information I requested earlier. Acronis information file is not enough, since it just provides software logs, Windows system information and Acronis report. Actually, we have already forwarded this case to our QA, but they weren't able to reproduce the situation due to lack of information from PC with the issue.

If you wish us to investigate the issue, please collect all information as I described in 18'th post on Fri, 2009-12-04 17:10

Hi Alexander,

I have the 0x0 Error too and I have opened a Support Request with all the Information requested in Post 18 on Thu, 17 Dec 2009.

Please help.

Hello Elizabeth,

Thank you very much for your assistance!

I have found your case in our database and have taken ownership. Your case number is 00452678, we will pass the information from your PC to our QA department.

Also, I have noticed one thing: you're running BitDefender software on your PC, and it shows some blocking activity in Process Monitor log. Could you please disable it and check whether the issue persists?

We will keep you updated for the results from QA.

Thank you!

Same Thing here (error 0x0 when starting oneclick-backup).
In addition i had a problem with a scheduled BackUp. The Option "only when device is connected) doesn stay checked. Acronis TI simply forgets this.
Aktivate this Option, Save the BackUp-Job, edit the Job again and you see the option deactivated.

I have the same problem. "Failed to lock volume and create snapshot".

The strange thing is that I have never used "one click backup" but have made 5 incremental backups in the usual way since I bought the programme last year.

Today when I attempted to make incremental backup 6 it came up with the error message.
After reading the posts here it doesn't give you much confidence that it will be fixed - not when the support guy feels he can scold customers for not sending the data he wants.

I understand that there is imaging software built into windows 7 - must have a closer look at that.

Same here - Tag =0x0 using the One Click.
Am running now running full back up as a task.
No help to anyone else but might as well add another occurance.
I assume Acronis have the information they require now.

Tag =0x0
One Click worked 1 time for me......
But it doesn't work anymore.

I hope that's not why they call it "1 Click".

I suspect their working on it as I've been here 3 or 4 times to see if it had been fixed but didn't post till now.

Oh, by the way.....
It figures I find this problem (1) day "after" my 30 day free support runs out :(

I also purchased the 2010 upgrade, and am experiencing the same (0x0)
Tag = 0x0
error message. It won't even let me launch the program.
I also use an external USB drive to backup. I used TI 2009 which seemed to work okay. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I think I saw on the Acronis site in the FAQ's that it doesn't support Vista Basic or Home Premium. WHAT???? Why don't you have this posted in bold plain english for potential buyers to see BEFORE they buy it? Not after they have to dig through the FORUM to find out the problem?

Hello all,

I would like to inform you that our QA Team was able to reproduce the issue, our developers are working to create a fix. We are planning to include this fix to the next released version. The exact date of the next build release is unknown, we are working on it.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

I have just bought the 2010 package to upgrade from 2009 in preparation for Windows 7 and also have the problem. My scheduled backups were picked up from the 2009 version and work fine. It is only the one click extra feature that gives the error.

This same thing happened to me and I discovered the problem seems to be with the desktop Icon shortcut for "One Step". I have tried to work around it but to no avail. There appears to be a problem with that part of the program. Deleting the shortcut helped.

Hello All,

I am also experiancing this issue with Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. Based upon Oleg's response from Acronis, I would assume that this next release with fixes this issue will be available for free to existing user ? Lets hope it is soon !! Steve

Hi everybody.

My name is Michel, and I have been a user of TrueImage for a few years now. I have been a HUGE fan of Acronis since I first discovered them by accident during a search for something else. My late wife would get SO TIRED of my ranting about their software being THE BEST... lol :-)

This is regarding the (00) error message when clicking on the 1-CLICK BACK-UP icon, but FIRST...

For what it is worth, I want all you new folk to know something about Acronis; they CARE about the customers' needs, and NO... I am NOT an employee of Acronis. I just can tell you that I have ALWAYS gotten the impression that they really do want to help their customers. Any time I either call or email, I get the feeling that it is important that I am made OK when all is said and done, and THIS is why I continue to support the TrueImage software with my purchase of upgrades, and I LOVE the 2010 Home Edition.

Please try to remember that we single individual customers make up a small % of their business, but we ARE important to them.

Now, the following is not a 100%, gonna work-every-time solution (tempory until they fix it?), but USUALLY, if I go ahead and create a MANUAL image, you know... going through the interface and all, and I make it so further updates are INCREMENTAL, and I make the image in the SAME TARGET PATH as the 1-CLICK will be... USUALLY all goes well when I feel it is time to click that 1-CLICK icon... USUALLY!

Sometimes it does not work the first or second try, but once it does... BINGO!

So, give it a try until the fix comes along. Make your image manually, them make sure the 1-CLICK path leads to it, and that it is set to INCREMENTAL... am I spelling that right?

Hope this helps.

Michel

Well, I'll be darned... I did an OOPS!!!

Please disregard the thing earlier regarding making sure that the 1-CLICK backup setting be INCRIMENTAL... the 1-CLICK is ONLY for FULL backups.

But what I said regarding making a MANUAL backup first still holds. So, give it a try; make a MANUAL backup first, then try the 1-CLICK thing.

Cheers!

Michel

Hello all,

Thank you for posting, your notes are greatly appreciated.

I would like to update the information concerning the issue. Our developers found the exact reason of the issue and created a fix. It will be included into the next released build (Update 2). The fix will be available to the existing users for free.
The exact date of the next build release is unknown.
Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question.
Thank you.
Hello all,
We have created a new article in our Knowledge base concerning the issue. Please see it for more information. This article contains a workaround that should allow you to use the One-click backup option..
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Hello I am a new customer of Acronis True Image Home and One-Click Backup 2010. My automatic backup is not working nor is the manual backup. I'm a freelance journalist, I'm not a technical person--but I need to know how I can fix this problem! My software that I purchased doesn't work!

Mary Lisbeth

By the way, I tried the workaround and it doesn't work for me when I click on tools and utlilities. It asks me for a prompt on name and password and I do not know what to input there. It also says the backup is planned for once a week on Sunday, rather than doing it right now.

Mary Lisbeth D'Amico

Hello Mary Lisbeth,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

When you create a task in Acronis True Image, you will need to provide your Windows user name and password at the Credentials screen. The program requires Windows authorization for a task execution. That is why you should enter your account name and password both to let Acronis True Image  log in to Windows with Administrator's rights and execute a task.

In other words, you should leave the username generated by our software and type the password you use to log in to Windows.
To find out your Windows user name please invoke Windows Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and select the Processes tab and check the User Name in the corresponding column.
To set the required schedule for One-click backup you should make a click on the appropriate item under the word Schedule at the bottom of the Acronis One click backup window.
If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

I purchased 250gb online update for 2010 home on my Windows 7 home 64. Immediately my Nonstop backup turned itself off as soon as I turned it on. This is subject to a complaint to Acronis. Today I am getting the tag = 0x0 fault.

What is occuring?

Hello Bryan,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

Could you please describe your actions step-by-step? What have you done exactly before Nonstop backup turned itself off? Have you started Online backup?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
