True Image Home 2011 Questions

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have a number of questions regarding True Image Home 2100 (6574) Plus Pack on a Win7 Pro 64bit laptop and would appreciate any help advice:

1. When a backup is in progress and I try to shut down the computer, the shutdown sequence begins and having logged me out of Windows to the stage where I can't change my mind, I get a screen which tells me that 'An operation is in progress and the computer will shut down when it completes' This could take hours. Is there a way to prevent this occurring or alternatively to get a warning BEFORE I commit to shutting down warning me that there is a backup taking place and allowing me the option to abort it. Strangely I am able to hibernate or sleep the machine OK

2. Although Acronis is set to differential backup (Version Chain). True Image produces a full backup and then a few differentials. It then apparently randomly produces another full backup and starts again. How can I prevent these wasteful full backups being produced?

3. When I Consolidate Versions I expected True image to combine the original with the version I had chosen to consolidate and delete the intervening versions. However what happens is that a process takes place but when it completes all the versions appear unchanged. Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would apprecated

You are doing nothing wrong.

However, it is not a good idea to attempt to close Windows when an image is running. You should be seeing a tray icon showing you that Acronis is running a task, and certainly don't have the task set to run at log off.

The problem you are getting is because the Acronis scheduler is running, sometimes Windows 7 manages to override this but if an actual taks is running then the shutdown as you have found can take a very long time.

The only way aroudn your problem is to either,

Ensure an image starts when you are going to be using thel aptop for a long period of time.

OR

Start all tasks manually rather than by schedule.

OR

Only hibernate - this ahs the advantage that TI will carry on where it left off when restarted.

Make a command script and use Windows scheduler to call TI, the command script could be scripted such that a warning message of your choosing is flashed up at you.

For questions 2 and 3, check out the link below. I suggest you use the custom scheme and look at the examples of how this might be done.

A new update was just released for verson 2011. It has many fixes for scheduling/consolidation issues. I suggest you download and install the new version.

More details about the new update is here.
