True Image Home Incremental Backup

Thread needs solution

Acronis incremantal is set up to reference a full backup of a several groups of selected folders. Each of these selection has a full backup. When an incremental is performed more files are backed up than have been accessed in the individual group selection. If I change one file and do an incremental backup, several hundred files are then backed up. But it is not a full backup, rather a subset of the full backup.
And how do I set up the incremental to backup just the one file that is changed. It doesn't happen on each backup, usually after some time but the files in the individual group selection have not been changed. Just the one file I'm trying to back up. Files in the other group sections have been changed but not in the group with the one file change.
What is causing this?
Most of the backed up files are several years old and have dates from the time of thier creation and last access several years ago.

If you are using a disk and partition backup, is it possible that some defrag software is running in the background? At a minimum, just running Windows will make a lot of changes around...

If you are using a file backup, that is a different story. Some files can be "changed" just because they are accessed. If you include an Outlook PST file for example, just opening Outlook, without receiving/sending,etc. will trigger a backup of the entire PST file.
