True Image OEM - How to setup Acronis OEM Zone?

Thread needs solution

I just installed Acronis True Image OEM Edition (build 8,179), and made sure to install all options during setup (options listed were: Rescue Media Builder, Acronis OEM Zone, Acronis True Image, Acronis WinPe OEM Zone Environment). I have registered and activated. Now I'm trying to set up the OEM Zone partition but cannot find how to set this up in the software. I read through the help file, which mentions "Acronis Secure Zone" under the Management Tools section. In my software, the Management Tools section only contains "Manage Tasks" and "Logs".

Can someone please direct me on how to setup my OEM Zone partition?

Thanks,
~Andy

Has your version set it up automatically?

In Windows Disk Managment it should show up as a partition with no drive letter attached and formatted as FAT32.

It may not show up in Explorer, though TI itself should be able to find it.

No, I just checked to make sure. My C: drive is still 111.79 GB and it's still the only thing listed under Disk Management (other than the dvd-drive). Furthermore, there's no option to backup to a partition.

I re-ran the setup file and was given the option to modify, repair or remove. I clicked Modify and it looks like all the install options were checked except for the WinPe Environment option. I don't think it's needed, but noticed that even when adding this, it doesn't install it. I re-enter the Modify list and it's always unchecked again. But the OEM Zone component shows up here as installed.

Additionally, when I access the Tools menu, then "Activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager", I get the following error message:

Error
Acronis OEM Zone is not detected on this computer. No action will be taken.
Acronis True Image OEM Edition allows you only to activate Acronis OEM Zone that already exists on a computer.
If you want to create Acronis OEM Zone, consider upgrading the product to the full version using the following address:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/oem/upgrade/.

But this product includes this feature, so that's not it. This is just a confirmation that the software didn't make the partition for whatever reason. I ran a repair on the program, which prompted me to reboot, but nothing has changed. Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling is the answer... I'll try that next.

I think this might be the problem. The reason you have an install choice of an SZ is really Acronis trying to say 'do you want to install the utility that allows this cut down version to access a premade SZ'.

I considered this, but everywhere I look indicates that this is one of the full features of the OEM version. I'm a tech working for a computer repair and sales company, and we do custom builds. We bought 30 licenses of this product and I'm testing it out on my laptop before offering it to my customers - so I can fully understand its features.

Here's the product page from Acronis, which clearly states that what I'm trying to achieve is a key feature:
http://www.acronis.com/oem/products/pc/

That, plus the "OEM Zone" feature selection during setup, sure leads me to believe it ought to work. If this was a teaser for the full product it wouldn't use the term OEM, but rather "Secure Zone" as it's called in their full versions.

Any other ideas?

My laptop is a ThinkPad T41, but it doesn't have the original drive with "Access IBM" partition - it's just a plain 120 GB IDE drive and I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3.

PS - I did fully uninstall and reinstall the software. It didn't help.

According to my understanding of the OEM manual, the mere installation of the program should auto create the SZ area at the end of the hard drive, unless using sysprep in which case thid will create it when the deployment environment is sealed.

Did you install using TrueImageOEMPC.exe /silent.?

I simply installed by double clicking the setup file (trueimage.oem.pc_s_en.exe). Is there any way to produce a log file during installation? Or is there any switch I can use to create the zone?

I also created the boot disc and tried booting off of it. When attempting to use either the Backup or Restore features, the hard drive is not viewable at all - no drive appears.

I don't have experience of the OEM product so was just working from the online user guide.

1. Have you tried reinstalling using the /silent switch?

2. If the rescue CD can't see drives then there is probably a driver problem with the Linux used.

Under your Acronis account do they offer an ISO download of a rescue CD?

Assuming the rescue CD works in the same way as the retail versions, then.

As the rescue CD begins to boot press the F11 key and you should get to a Linux command line.

After the quiet.... type in acpi=off noapic

See if your disks are recognised afterwards.

Again in the retail version, there is now a facility that allows the various parameters to be embedded into the ASRM or the rescue CD automatically.
