True Image: 'processing, please wait' takes ages

Thread needs solution

I bought Acronis True Image Home 2009 (Dutch).

And a Iomega Home Media Network Hard Disk.

This Iomega-stuff uses several network mapped drives.

When I launch TIB, it takes ages (about 10 minutes) to start, and meanwhile the "processing, please wait" message is there.

I uninstalled TIB Home 2009 and installed TIB Workstation 9.7. An Englisf version so I could know the English message.

The problems stays: "processing, please wait".

Also backing up to the Iomega Netdrive is sloooow.

Both computer and NAS are connected via (confirmed working) Gigabit ethernet.

Anyone any idea?

Hello Luk Van de Heyning,

Please, tested you download, install and use new builds of both programs?

So what happens after the 'processing pleas wait', you do not say.

Then you say it backs up but slow? What does?

and see if it helps -- couldn't hurt ;)

After I wait for about 10 to 20 minutes, the "processing" message disappears and the program finally starts.

Today I disconnected the Iomega NAS drive and I connected a brand new Samsung external HDD.

Now ity takes about 10 minutes for TIH 2009 to start. When it's finally started and I click 'backup, my computer etc' there is a 'processing' message again, again for 10-15 minutes.

I must say today this computer is connected to a network (not domain or active directory) with many connected PCs.

Perhaps TIH 2009 is trying them all to find if there are mapped / shared network drives?

It should NOT look for those (noty until I tell it to do, but that seems no option...).

So up till now I had very good experiences with Acronis TIH, we sold many.

But since two days the product is no longer in our shelves until I can find what's so bloody wrong with it.

Makes me mad.

P.s. the disabling of the 'distributed link... service' does not make any difference at all over here.

P.P.S. Can someone point me in the direction of a WORKING program with the possibilities of TIHome (image based backup, possibility to mount backup archives so restore single files) ?

OS is Vista 64bit and will be Windows7 on another system later today...

Something tells me TIH is not going to behave better on Windows 7, but who knows :-)

Hello Luk,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Make sure that you are using the latest build of the program http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

Disable the Distributed Link Tracking Client service:

Vista:

1. Click on the START button and type "services".

2. Click on "services" from the menu.

3. Click "Continue" when the UAC prompt appears .

4. In the list of services shown, find "Distributed Link Tracking Client" and double-click on it.

5. Click the "STOP" button to stop the service.

6. From the drop-down list choose "Disabled".

7. Click "OK" and close the list of Services.

Windows XP:

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services -> , find "Distributed Link Tracking Client" and double-click on it

Click the "STOP" button to stop the service

Then right-click it choose properties and set startup type to Disabled.

Check disks for errors:

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)

- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

In some cases Acronis drivers may interfere with drivers of other software installed on your computer. E.g. Antivirus programs can seriously influence Acronis software from proper functionality. To overcome this issue you should download and install the latest builds of Antivirus software or temporarily disable it.

I too am having this problem on Windows 7 x64, using Acronis TI 2010, build 6053. It occurs only after Windows 7 has been running for more than about 15 - 20 minutes w/o accessing the my external 1.5 GB Western Digital My Book drive. Power saving options under Windows 7 x64 are turned off. Only Acronis TI 2010 has issues accessing my external drive. I have not seen other applications have problems accessing the external drive.

Oddly, I have only seen this problem when the external drive is attached via esata. The problem does not seem to occur when the drive is attached via USB 2.0. My esata connection is provided by a DYNEX esata pci-e card using the Sil 3132 chip and reference design. The firmware and drivers for that card are the most recent available.

I've already cleaned out my restore points, chkdsk'd my drives, and disabled the "distributed ..." services as suggested by Acronis & others. No change.

I updated the firmware on my Western Digital MyBook and so far, so good. Acronis TI 2010 has been starting normally under Windows 7 x64. If only I could get non-stop backup to work.

Hello edelbeb,

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay with the response.

I'm really glad that you've managed to fix the issue with True Image hanging.

As for the 'non-stop backup' issue: our developers are working on this issue and it'll be fixed as soon as possible. I may suggest you to have a look at this thread to find out some more information.

Thank you.
