TrueImage Appication File disappears from Acronis>TrueImageHome folder

Thread needs solution

My TrueImage 2012 would not launch. Yesterday, I discovered that the approx 20mb TrueImage application file disappeared from the folder. Another one of our licensed users sent me a copy of this file and I placed it in the folder and the program started and ran successfully. Today I went to launch the program and, again, the file was missing. Again, I added the file to the folder and it ran.

Can anyone suggest a reason why the file keeps disappearing and how to fix. I have been running the program for more than a year with no incident and now this. I am running Windows 7 32 bit.

I have attached a screen capture of the file that keeps disappearing

Thanks.

Only thing I can think of is that your anti-virus/anti-malware software may be performing a scan and is removing this file. Check you anti-virus/anti-malware software logs to see if there is any indication of this.

You can always add the .exe file to the list of excluded/safe files in the security software so that this will not happen (if this is the case here).

I excluded these files from anti-virus scan and the launcher.exe file continues to disappear. This is really frustrating and baffling. Any other ideas/suggestions???

Eric,

This type of behavior is typical of a Root Kit type of malware infection.

Do a search for Root Kit detection in your favorite search engine and try some of the resulting packages to scan your system for Root Kits and any other malware.

I would suggest starting here: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/virus-removal-tool/down…

RATS, James. I installed and ran Sophos - it found one key gen item and removed it. But, the file still keeps disappearing. I put it back in from a place that I have a copy of it on the computer. It is not removing it from this place but only from the TrueImageHome folder. This is so bizarre (and annoying). Any other thoughts??? Thanks,

Try to run process monitor ( http://kb.acronis.com/content/2295 ), set up a filter to match Path - contains - TrueImage.exe, check the item in the menu to 'drop filtered event' (otherwise the log will be too big) and let it run until the file disappears. The last entries will be related to its deletion - the you will know the name of the process responsible for it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I ran the process monitor for 3 days through a series of acronis backups without the program turning off the program and all went well. I saved the process file in case it is of value but it says nothing unusual. Before turning off the computer, I checked to be sure that TrueImages.exe was still on the computer and it was. I then turned off the computer and restarted it and - darn, the file TrueImage.exe was not in the program file. So, it turns out that shutting off the computer, or the act of it booting up, caused it to disappear.

Why? What do you suggest as to the problem and a fix. I appreciate any suggestions.
