TrueImage blocks Windows 8.1 network access to NAS

Thread needs solution

I have scheduled a daily image backup to my NAS. This works perfectly, but after the backup has run I cannot connect to any share on my NAS. I get a Windows 0x80070035 "Networkpath not found" error. Before the backup runs everything works wel.
What happens is that the process TrueImage.exe opens a SMB network connection to the NAS on port 445 when starting the backup, but does not close it after the backup has run. This connection blocks any other SMB connection to the NAS.
After I close the SMB connection manually everything is fine again.

I am seeing this on three different Windows PC's, all running Windows 8.1 and the latest build of TrueImage Home 2014.

Thanks for your reply. But I know what the problem is. TrueImage Home 2014 is not releasing it's connection to the NAS properly after performing a backup. As long as I do not run a backup to a NAS everything on my network is running fine. Acronis needs to fix this bug.

I am just mentioning it here because I am refusing to pay a fee to Acronis to get support and get this fixed. It is unbelievable they want me to pay to fix a bug.
If I had known they only give free support for a month after buying a product I would never have bought it in the first place.

Your workaround could be to use in Windows explorer the same set credentials that Acronis uses to access the NAS. In general, Windows allows a unique set of credentials for a given share on a given computer for each individual user. So if Acronis holds the connection with a set of credentials, your user account may not access the share with another set of credentials.

Yes, you are right. But I already use the same unique set of credentials.

With Windows 8.1 you are more or less forced to use a Microsoft account to login and you can't use those credentials to login to the NAS. So I have set up local credentials (Windows references) under my Microsoft account, the same credentials are on the NAS and I use the same credentials in TrueImage.
Everything works just fine, every program can access the NAS using the Windows reference credentials, until I run an image backup. After the backup TrueImage does not disconnect its connection on port 445 to the NAS. And because this connection is now in use no other program can use it and just can't find the NAS so I get "Network path not found" errors. As soon as I disconnect this everything works as intended.

If you have not done so already you might make sure that all your network drivers are up to date.

Hello Everyone!

Bob, Pat, thank you very much for helping!

Marc, usually Windows closes connection right after backup. The only possible reason for the discribed behavior is that trueimage.exe process doesn't stop. If it is so, we need to investigate the case.

1) Please install the latest update (build 6673).

2) Should the issue persist, please open Windows task manager and check if trueimage.exe process is present.

3) If yes, please follow this guide to create a process dump.

Thank you.
