TrueImage Home 2010 Validation & Image Location
I'm using TH 2010 and the One Click Option to backup my C
drive to another internal hard drive.
Question 1 - When my backup location becomes full, will TIH
delete the oldest backup before attempting a scheduled backup?
Question 2 - how do I get one click backup to validate my backup
automatically after creation?
Question 3 - How do I get TIH to close after a successful
scheduled one click backup and if I can get it to validate
immediately after creation how do I get it to close if successful?
Thanks

On question 3, your link was informative, but I don't want to shutdown the computer,
I just want to end the TIH task
Also, I want ONE CLICK to backup my C drive to my F drive which it does, however, I want
TIH to then immediately do a Validate. I have the Validate option checked under
Tools & utilities, local storage settings. archive validation, but the first ONE CLICK
backup did not start a validate after the backup. I had to manually validate the image.
I've rebooted the machine and will see if it does the backup and validate at it's
appointed time (default).
I'm doing this for a user who leaves their machine running 24/7 to insure that they get backed
up once a week and validated. I've set up email notification to alert me to the status of
the backup. Is There also a way to send email notifications of the validate process? If not in
2010. how about in 2012?

I will try to respond again later today or tonight regarding backup deletion or space utilization.
If TrueImage is started manually, it must be closed manually. However, if you use the TI or Windows scheduler or a desktop shortcut to start the program automatically, then the program should also close automatically.
Validation is a user invoked option. The OneStep backup does not normally have this option checked so validation is not scheduled. If you want the validation, you will need to set the option.
The email notification will advise you of the success or failure of the task. It will not specifically mention validation. If you are notified of a successful conclusion of the task, you will have to assume the successful validation of the task.
When creating a backup task, it is best to assign each task to its own backup folder. This instruction is contrary to what Acronis indicates but actual practice has shown fewer issues when the backup in within its own individual folder.
If your system being backed up is a Windows 7 system, most likely the OneStep backup does not contain all you need to create a replacement disk as discussed in index item 3-M.
Be sure you have the most recent version and build of version 2010

Question 1 - When my backup location becomes full, will TIH delete the oldest backup before attempting a scheduled backup?
The user would need to set up the options--similar to what the attachment below shows. The 2010 option which works best for backup retention is the keep x number of chains.
The 2010 version is no longer being changed or undated so you are using "as is."

If you want to make your backup procedure one that is easy to implement and easy to follow, then I suggest that you consider the helper program Chain2Gen(C2G) designed by forum contributor OracleDBA. TrueImageHome performs the backup according to your schedule and then C2G controls how many backups folders are retained and make sure a new full backup is completed according to the criteria set by you.
The external disk would not get full so a reformat would never be necessary. Once C2G sees that our desired number of backup folders has been reached, then it deletes the oldest folder to make room for the approaching new backup.
C2G has a variety of possible parameters so investigate the program. In its simplest form, you determine how many backup files are to be retained in one folder(set0) plus how many folders that you want retained. The current backup storage folder is always called "set0" and subsequent folders numbered sequentially. Thus, for example, if you wanted to
a. retain 13 weeks of backups
b. Each weeks would comprise one full plus six daily incremental's.
C2G would create 13 folders numbered set0.....set13
each folder (set?) folder would contain 7 backups (backup1.tib....backup2....backup6.tib)
Each weekly as a new full backup set added, the oldest folder(set?) would be rotated upwards and deleted if the number of backup folders reach its limit.
Click on my signature link below and browse to category #3. Item 3B is an easy to understand "How to" pdf file and item 3A explains many of the possible uses of the program plus even more "how to" examples.
A little time spent in the beginning setting up the C2G program can save you a lot of time and trouble later on. The C2G setup of one user can be copied for other users so it is easy to replicate.
