Try & Decide: Upon discard (and reboot), destroys files that existed before T&D was enabled

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image 2013 build 6514
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I started Try & Decide (T&D) mode which required stopping the Non-Stop Backup plan and also making me disable the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (which I had to re-enable after the reboot). Later I exited Try & Decide mode and chose to discard all changes which required a reboot. Upon logging into my Windows account after the reboot, all the toolbars in the Windows taskbar were gone. Oh, gee, what a joy, I get to reenable them and position them as before. Well, not only do I have to reconfigure the Windows taskbar but I also have to restore all the shortcuts since they got deleted from the folders (each custom toolbar is a folder).

Why would Try & Decide destroy the toolbar layout in the Windows taskbar? Those weren't changed. The contents of the folder for each toolbar were not altered. Not only did the toolbars no longer appear in the taskbar, the folders for them (toolbars are folders with shortcuts) were completely emptied. T&D destroyed the shortcuts. They're gone. I had to recover them from backups. Then I had to re-add the toolbars to the Windows taskbar. Then I had to rearrange them. Then I had to resize them.

Wow, I didn't realize Acronis would distribute such a corrosive tool with their software. From what I've now read in these forums about T&D, it seems way too dangerous to use. T&D was introduced 4 years back in True Image 2010 and yet it remains an unsafe tool.

Yeah, I know the old mantra of "upgrade (and pay) to get a newer version". Frankly I don't remember that any problem that I encountered or reported with True Image got fixed by throwing good money at yet another version that did not specifically address those problems. Also, the changelogs (release notes) for the 2014 and 2015 versions do *not* mention any changes made for T&D. The 2013 has the last mention of changes for T&D. So there is no indication that any problems have been addressed in T&D for the newer versions. Looks dead.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that Acronis acquired T&D from some other vendor and Acronis expended little effort in fixing T&D to make it stable, reliable, and behave properly. It takes awhile until I forget about T&D and then try it again only to encounter another catastrophe.
