Trying to clone to the same model of HDD stops TI Home 2011 programs from responding

Thread needs solution

I'm running Windows XP and trying to clone my HDD. The source and destination discs are type WD800BB - 55JK and WD800BB - 60JK respectively. Both 80GB HDD.

I'm using the application: Start>All Programs> Acronis> Acronis True Image Home 2011> Tools and Utilities> Clone Disk

* I have several partitions on my source drive.
* The destination drive is unallocated.
* I go through the procedure required by the clone application and then wait for the application to do it's job.
* After a few seconds I get a ballon on the desktop which says: "Operation Paused - Reboot is required"
* I click on the balloon, then I chose Start> Turn Off Computer>Restart to get my PC to turn off, then reboot.
* But before PC turns off I get a box that tells me a TI (True Image) program is not responding. I chose to "close now" rather than "End" That happens about 3 times, possibly three different TI, programs, I think.

Anyway, eventually the PC turns off, and reboots. But when rebooted - nothing happens.

Clone application just is not working on my PC. What is wrong? Thanks.

I removed TI then re-installed. No difference.

What gets me is why, once started, I am being asked to reboot within 10 minutes, (otherwise the task will fail) . But, perhaps that is normal.

Of course, the destination disc does not appear in "My Computer", because it's at first not allocated.

I have 8 partitions, so that should not be a problem.

Perhaps I should NOT reboot, and just see what gives.

Actually I have now have partial completion.

When PC rebooted it started a partition creation and copying sequence. But on the 4th partition, it got to 92% and seemed to stop at that. Total was 41%. So I terminated and on PC reboot, I could see that only the first 4 partitions had been cloned.

So, not working yet.

Okay, sussed it.

When you get the balloon saying "Operation Paused - Reboot is required", you MUST click on that balloon.

Then, you must WAIT until a box appears. On that box there is a button which says "Reboot". You MUST reboot by pressing that button.

If you reboot by your normal Start> Turn Off Computer>Restart, things will not work properly.

So, sorted.

Richard6666,

Always do the cloning from the recovery CD. That enhances significantly the chances of success.
