UEFI or not

Thread needs solution

Hi my new mother board (Asus P9X79-WS) give me an option to use the DVD drive as a UEFI device or not. To make what I am saying clear; before UEFI motherboard I would always see an option to boot from the CD/DVD drive now I see two choices that relate: 1 Standard CD/DVD 2 UEFI CD/DVD. When I set up Windows via the standard I saw different options for drive configuration then when I set it up with UEFI choice. This is the same with Acronis True Image, I see that choosing the UEFI boot I have different partitions showing up. Does anybody know of guides or information that help with understanding how to make images under UEFI and Windows 8? To complicate the matter even more one of the computers we are working with it has a PCIexpress hard drive. I have contacted the manufacture to see if there should be any considerations taken, but if anybody knows any consideration for that it would help a lot. Thanks

If you have set up your BIOS to UEFI before you installed Windows, Windows will make your boot disk GPT and configure the partitions for that layout. Then, you can have the rest of your devices use the UEFI option, if the DVD is set up to boot this way. If what you have on your DVD fails to boot UEFI, it can be because it fails the secure boot test. Sometimes, disabling secure boot takes you through boot. Often, you have to then choose Standard option to boot from your DVD.
If you have your motherboard BIOS to boot from UEFI, the Acronis recovery CD will try to load the Acronis UEFI loader, with the same logic.
