Unable to clone C: drive. Error 10, extension 458, 755 'Read error'.

Thread needs solution

Have gotten this error a few times now trying to clone my dying HDD over to my new one. Browsing the forums seems to have revealed that running Chkdsk to repair any issues resolves this issue. Unfortunately, as I said, my HDD is dying. Chkdsk made it barely functional enough for me to properly boot and lets me load between different processes extremely slowly, but doesn't turn up anything new when I run its repair utility.
I was wondering if there's a workaround or alternate method to simply scrapping my old drive and starting from scratch by getting a new Win7 disk. Or would Acronis be able to make a bootable? Twiddling my thumbs here through five minute page loads, thinking of the glory days of dialup when this was everyday normal.

Do not clone.

Boot from the bootable ATI Rescue Media (so as not to be using your failing HD any more than necessary, such as booting from it) and make a full disk backup.
