Unable to Recover Image using Disk method

Thread needs solution

I am trying to recover an image to a new drive using the Disk Method. Acronis sees the new disk, however it is higlighted in Red and when selected I get this error "Cannot recover to selected disk".
i added the disk via the Acronis tool and it sees it and at a loss at the moment.
Thanks.

Is is initialized with the correct layout table type, i.e, GPT vs MBR or vice versa?

Have you tried restoring individual partitions?

yep tried MBR and GPT. When restoring using the Partition method, i have a total of 8 partitions, after selecting the 3rd partition i am unable to select the disk as it appears that the remaining disk space is being used by this partition. i also tried partitioning the drive itself and restoring the partitions into each individual partition and still no go.

Allen,

Are you using the recovery CD to do the restore? This is highly recommended.

im using an image of another system and restoring it onto a new external drive so that i can migrate it to the new system. This has worked before and not sure why this has stopped working. Is there something that got messed up in ATIH2012?

Was the original hard drive GPT? (If this is a Windows 7 64 bit then the answer should be yes. If so then you should make just one big partition on the target when you initialize it. I know you think you want to make 8 partitions but trust me, you don't. Then when you are setting up the recovery settings, select all the partitions on the source and on each screen where you are offered a change to select New Location, do so until all source partitions have been located, accepting the default size.

You can follow these directions in post 66 of this thread

Just ignore the stamina and UEFI settings steps. Also, if source and target hard disks are same size, you can ignore the steps for resizing of partition C:

actually its a Linux image with 8 partitions. So i downloaded to ATIH 2011 and to ATIH2010 and able to recover the sucessfully. It appears that there is an issue with ATIH2012.
