Uninstall of DiscWizard causes system not to boot (Windows 10)

Thread needs solution

Following uninstall of DiscWizard 18.0.6030 and after reboot I get a BSOD with error message 'Inaccessable Boot Device" on Windows 10. I have to perform a system recovery each time. I tried 3rd party uninstallers and a reinstall with repair but each uninstall attempt causes the BSOD on reboot. Can you please advise how to safely remove the DiscWizard software. Thanks.

degsie, welcome to these user forums.

I have not heard of anyone reporting BSOD's for just uninstalling Seagate DiscWizard or other flavours of Acronis OEM software.

When you say you perform a system recovery each time you hit the BSOD, are you meaning that your recovery from a backup image and get back to the same state as before uninstalling DiscWizard?

If so, then please ensure that you have disabled / removed any additional functions that DiscWizard may have added to your system, in particular the Acronis Secure Zone and Acronis Startup Recovery Manager - these should be removed before you uninstall the main software application.  The ASRM modifies the Windows boot loader to provide a F11 prompt on boot, and the ASZ is a separate partition where backups can be stored.

I would also recommend running the Acronis Cleanup Tool (as Administrator) from the link in my signature below after removing all traces of DiscWizard normally, to ensure that all further traces of Acronis software are gone too.

Thanks for the response Steve. I recover using a previously save restore point via advanced troubleshooting in windows recovery. I did not install any of the additional features you mention. I once again attempted a removal using the link you provided, firstly doing a 'normal' remove followed by option '2'in the cleanup tool. The same blue screen came up after reboot (see attached) :(

I have used and uninstalled DiscWizard many times in the past (pre win 10) and don't recall having this issue before. It's a bit baffling. Looks like I'm stuck with DiscWizard for now...

degsie, sorry that the suggestions did not help further with this issue, it is certainly very strange that this product can cause the inaccessible boot device error and that this is not repaired permanently when you use the Windows repair tools.

Did you try a Windows 10 Startup Repair rather than just recovering via a System Restore point which puts you back to where you started?

So, I tried Startup Repair which carried out a disk scan/repair and what ever else, and the laptop did eventually reboot ok. Funny thing is that DiscWizard re-appeared! Looks like startup repair did a restore point recovery behind the scenes. I then uninstalled DiscWizard again, got the BSOD on reboot and tried safe mode boot and it also did not work. Tried once more and carried out boot with logging but still no joy. Apart from a full reset I am not getting rid of DiscWizard anytime soon! It's a tad annoying at this point :(

I have been looking around to see if I could find any other reports of similar problems but these have been mainly with the effect rather than the cause, i.e. for the inaccessible boot device aspect rather than why uninstalling discwizard should cause this.

Some hits suggested trying to boot into Windows Safe Mode from the point where you see the BSOD error and providing that you can do so successfully, simply restart Windows again from that point.

See webpage: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2760985/inaccessible-boot-device-reset.html where a number of users say this approach worked for them.

Thanks again, I already tried that approach to no avail. I'll keep digging for a while but may ultimately just do a reset.
