Universal Restore on Surface Pro [PLEASE ANSWER!!!!]

Thread needs solution

Quick question....

Would it be possible to backup a hp laptop image, and restore it on a Microsoft surface pro using universal restore? - with everything intact and working as if i was using my laptop?

Or am i crazy?

Thank you!

No, not by cloning or backup and restore. The drivers from one machine are not compatible with another. Usually, the new machine will not boot or if it does boot, it will try to fix itself.

There are programs that let you transfer all of your data and most of your programs from one system to another. You will still need to do a little cleanup, but you won't be completely toasted. Also, you'll still have your old machine to rely on until you get the transfer done correctly.

This thread is a month old, but your reply is basically correct. The reason this wouldn't work is because the image would not license properly or run on the surface hardware. Windows product activation is tied to the BIOS in this case.
