Upgrade

Thread needs solution

I currently am running Acronis 9.0 and my computer crashed. I resotred ther image to a similar older computer (still had IED hard drive). I could only get that computer to start in safe mode. I wanted to upgrade to Acronis True Image 13.0 with the Plus Pack. My logic is that I can image my existing hard drive and restore it on a new machine. Can I image the hard drive even if it will only open in safe mode?

This could be the video driver.

When starting your computer, press the F8 key (repeatedly) before Windows loads to get to the Windows startup options menu. Select start Windows with standard VGA video drivers and reboot. If successful, use control panel to add/remove the video driver software, and then check device manager for the old video graphics hardware and remove it (if listed). Then restart Windows to see if it works properly. You may have to install new (correct) video drivers to support the current video card installed in the system

If not video related:

You should be able to start the computer in safe mode and correct any issues that are preventing startup in normal mode.
Open "msconfig" and under the "startup items" tab, deselect all the items. In the "services" tab, check the box that says "hide all Microsoft services" and deselect all that remain. Click okay and allow the system to reboot to see if Windows starts up. If so, add the services that you disabled in "msconfig" back one at a time and reboot. Do this for each service. If enabling a certain service causes the system to fail to boot, start in safe mode again and uncheck that service and keep adding the remaining services until you have determined which service or services are causing the issues. Once you have the system running with as many of the services as possible, do the same for each of the "startup" items. Once you have determined what items cause the normal boot to fail, research each disabled service or startup item to find out how to remove the items permanently.

To answer your question about 2013, you could purchase 2013 with the Plus Pack, image the drive and restore it with Universal Restore enabled as you are suggesting. You will need to have the appropriate driver(s) available for the new computer's chipset and hard disk controllers.

I would suggest you try and fix the safe mode/normal mode issues first. If the system can boot in safe mode, you should be able to correct the issues with a little work on your part.
