Upgrade "Corrupted" Three of My Backups; Annoyances with Upgrade Process; UI Problems

Thread needs solution

When I launched True Image Home 2011 yesterday it offered to upgrade to the latest version. The upgrade process was a bit annoying although it completed OK. The annoying bit was that, first, the progress bar sat at 0% for well over a minute before it started to move. (This is on an i7 940 with 12 GB RAM.) I was wondering whether it was working or hung.

Then, it ran the download and update as one process, not giving me the option to download first to save a copy. If I need to reinstall at any point, I won't have this upgrade on my software backup drive, another annoyance.

But much more annoying and anxiety-provoking than these two things was that after installation it told me that three of my backups were corrupt. These three backups were all shown as valid before the upgrade. I had been backing up to each of them alternately (different external hard drives) on a regular basis and all had been working. I always validate every backup and that had seemed to be working fine.

After messing with various options for an hour I found that I was able to get TIH to recognize these backups as valid by re-running the validate process on each backup (a process which took several more hours).

In short, I'm quite disappointed with this upgrade.

Furthermore, I continue to experience problems with non-responsiveness in the UI. In some cases, I have to double-click where a single-click should work (and sometimes does).

In other cases, the UI is completely unresponsive. This occurs when TIH is running on a secondary monitor. If I click Explore and Recover, after I get to the screen listing Files and folders for the backup the UI is dead. Clicking on the little triangle next to My computer to expand the list of folders does nothing. Double-clicking on it does nothing. Clicking on the back arrow in the nav bar at the top does nothing. Double-clicking does get back to the main screen. I was disappointed to see that these problems have not been addressed since I previously reported them.

All in all, I'm pretty disappointed in this product. I expect a backup product to feature reliability and ease of use as top priorities. That's not what I've found with True Image Home 2011. Instead, I find myself constantly wondering whether my backup is safe or the product is going to respond successfully.
