USB 3 Host Controller not recognized with Acronis True Image Emergency Boot Disk

Thread needs solution

Does anyone know which USB 3 host controllers are supported?

I am using this one:

4-Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCI-E PCI Express with 15-pin SATA Power Connector

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1NV0RH3514

Closest I can tell is it uses the VIA chip.

Drive is recognized when plugging into existing USB 2.0 port but defeats the purpose as it slows throughput down.

It may have more to do with your USB Host Controller Drivers. I use Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver. I updated to latest driver 2.1.39.0 and firmware 4.0.2.1.0.3. My USB 3.0 ports work fine with ATI 2013 Rescue Media and ATI 2014 Rescue Media.

Check to see what Host Controller Drivers yours uses. and update both drivers and firmware.

I believe this controller is listed as VIA USB eXtensible Host Controller under device manager. I have the latest Windows drivers and works fine in Windows. Fast backups at about 80 MB per second using USB 3 on an external drive.

My problem is the Acronis True Image Emergency Boot Disk apparently does not have the correct driver for this card. This must be a very common issue ?

I still recommend that you check the OEM's own web site to find latest drivers and firmware. I found much more recent ones than those from Windows.

No, not common. ATI 2013 and ATI 2014 Rescue Media seems to have pretty good support for a wide range of USB 3.0 stuff. But, it's possible that yours isn't yet covered, I don't know. Do what I suggested and if no joy, send details to Acronis.

I would imagine the VIA chip would be widely used in many different boards. Does your Renesas use this chip? There appears to be a general VIA firmware and driver page, however I am checking if it is compatible with my board.

It does show the last firmware available was dated 2012, so some time ago. The Drivers also show a 2012 date.

I believe that Renesas (or formerly NEC) would also be the chip provider.

Update. still no go on getting the USB 3 host controller recognized by the emergency boot disk.

Updated the drivers and firmware for the VIA USB 3 host controller.

Created a WinPE boot disk with the 32 bit VIA USB 3 host controller driver injected into the Acronis ISO. Still does not see the USB 3 drive attached to the controller.

Something else to try would be MustangPE. You can add custom drivers and other things. Really nice.
