USB Backup Drive Not Recognized By True Image Home 11 On HP Laptop - Vista Ultimate 64 - With No HP Security Or Backup Loaded
I have recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium 32 to Vista Ultimate 64.
In Vista Home Premium, Acronis 11 worked fine once I removed all HP backup and security software plus backup partition, but in Vista Ultimate 64 with no HP security, backup partition or backup software ever installed, Acronis 11 does not recognize my USB WD backup drive.
I have installed a second WD HDD internally, which is recognized by Acronis 11.
I have even tried WD's own version of Acronis True Image software with the same non recognition result.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply, GroverH, but that doesn't cure the problem either.
I downloaded the suggested ISO file and burnt ito disc, but unfortunately I couldn't open the resulting CD.
I then downloaded the complete 8101 file to the HP laptop and loaded the programme that way.
The external back up disc is still not recognized by Acronis, although it's recognized by the laptop's OS, Vista Ultimate 64.
The other version of Acronis Home, the WD version, is build 11.0.0.8311, so it's even later than the suggested file.
I would have thought Acronis might have solved this incompatibility with HP laptops by now, as it's been a problem for quite some time.

Hello David and GroverH!
Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this issue and many thanks to GroverH for his kind assistance.
Dear David, I regret to inform you that Acronis True Image Home 11 is an outdated product: it's not developed, updated or supported anymore, and we cannot guarantee that it will support the most modern hardware. So there's not much option we have.
We can try another media built on an alternative loader (I will send you the link to it via Private message in a minute), it should face to resolve the issue.
I would advise you upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2010. I would advise you totest the solution before making a decision: the trial version is full functional and has no limitations except
- 15 days of work
- trial bootable media can restore only
All the information regarding it's functionality is available in the User's Guide, so feel free to check it.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

The only way I could overcome this problem, was as follows:
I recently installed a second 250GB Scorpio Blue HDD in the HP laptop, so, I removed this new drive from the Laptop, installed it in the Passport Essential back up drive, fitted the original 250GB Passport Essential drive in the Laptop, and everything is now recognised by WD Acronis and does what I originally wanted it to do.
This goes to prove that the firmware on the original Passport Essential 250GB back up drive was causing the problem with the USB connection on the HP Laptop, as within the laptop, it is recognised by Acronis, and the new drive has no problem with the USB connection.
I am not best pleased at having to go down this route, as the Passport Essential is only 2 years old, and because I live in the UK, couldn't be upgraded by WD, so I had to do it myself.
