Using Acronis iso image to restore 60gb to 100gb disk

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I came across this problem recently. I have a 500gb disk that i use 60 gb of it in 2 partitions C and D the rest of the disk I mark it as unallocated disk space. I used Acronis iso from a usb drive for making bacup of that disk.

When I tried to restore this backup to another disk with 100gb capacity it won't allow me and the disk was greyed out and cannot be selected. I tried sith another disk that is also 100gb but had same problem. When I used another disk that is 370gb it allowed me to restore.

Why it doesn't allow me to restore to the 100gb though it worked for another disk that was 370gb?

Jaqo, welcome to these user forums.

There should be no problem in restoring a backup of a 60GB drive/partition to a 100GB drive, but what is the exact size of the backup file .TIB that is created when you make the backup image?

If you choose to use sector-by-sector when making the backup file then this could easily exceed 100GB of the target drive.

Screen shots of Windows Disk Management from your source drive would help our understanding of this issue.
