using True Image Home 2009 on new computer with Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I have a new computer running Windows 7. When I tried to install my Ture Image Home 2009 the screens were only partially there; the pictures were but the words weren't. What do I have to go to get 2009 to run under Windows 7 so I can install it and hopefully access and restor my backup from my old system running under XP?

Hello Gordon,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum. I will definitely help you with resolving this issue.

Unfortunately Acronis True Image 2009 is not compatible with Windows 7. However, I can suggest 2 workarounds that you can use to get your files from an older backup:

1. Download and install a trial version of Acronis True Image 2011 Home, it supports Windows 7 and you can recover version 2009 backups.

2. Download the bootable media for version 2009 from your Acronis web-account, boot your Windows 7 from it and recover the files from the backup. Please check page 51 from our User Guide for instructions.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Well, I tried your advice as I am in the same situation. I had Acronis home 9 on a computer running Vista. The new computer I have has Windows 7. I instaled the True home 2001 in the new comp. and easily restored my Docs, photos and other data files. However, I can't restore my bookmarks and the most important I can't find my outlook file in my backup file to restore to my new computer. How do I find a hidden file in my acronis bakcup done with the 9 version? I can't find the bookmark.hmtl file either. I found a Favorites files but when I restore them each individual bookmark is restored to a location I choose but not into Explorer.
Thanks for any help

Conceicao Farias,
Most likely your best chance to recover your Outlook would be to do an export of data from inside Outlook on the old computer onto a dvd or thumb drive and then use the import feature on the new computer.

You may also be able to copy the favorites folder from the old computer and paste the folder into the new computer at a place of your choosing.

As the operating system differs on the two computers, I believe you have restored as much as you can.

Thanks a bunch for the reply. The problem is: the old computer HD is dead, dead, done, gone. I really relied in my Acronis bakcup what I do faithfully. My other problem is the documents I easily restored, mostly Word and Excel files, do not open in the new computer unless I go into the properties and change the security settings for each file to allow the new computer user full access to the files. With so many files this is a lot of work. Did the acronis backup set up the files with this kind of restriciton? any way around it?
Thanks again.

When you restore, you should see "advanced restore options", among which you have the option "not to preserve security settings" (from the old computers).

So, what is the point of using Acronis bakcup if I can't restore my Outlook files if the new computer has a different OS? it is unrealistic to think that we will have the same OS forever. I still think that I should be able to restore the outlook.pst file.
I would love to find the answer before I switch to a different bakcup software.
