Validate error "Cannot find version 1" on every backup, validation, and restore

Thread needs solution

* I have created several backups on various media. Every time I try and validate a backup I get the error "Cannot find version 1." This occurs when the backup is 99% done as part of the backup or after the backup is 99% validated.
* Whether I try to Ignore, retry, or browse at the error message, I cannot get the validation to complete. Usually I get the Cannot Find error but occasionally I get the error "failed to check last versions of the backup." No matter what I try I cannot get a validation to complete. I am able to open the backup files by double clicking in Windows explorer and sometime I can open the restore data.
* ALL backups are single use full backups of the full OS hard drive with all partitions) for a Windows 8.1 pro laptop with from last year with an i7 quad core, SSD drive, 8GB ram.
* When I try to recover files I get a similar error that says Cannot find version X (X being a 1 digit number).

Hi,

I've had the same condition since reinstalling and reconfiguring Acronis 2015 (build 6613). However in my case it's when the product tries to create a new incremental backup. None of the options presented works - Browse does nothing, Ignore does nothing - the only thing I can do is cancel the backup (which works in a negative sense). I can't then find a way of resetting the backup so that it operates correctly again. I've tried validating what's there and am stuck where you are. I will be interested to see if anyone's got any good ideas on how to repair a broken backup or explain what's the matter with validate.

Kind regards, Stefan

I'm having the same problem. I do a "file" backup and an "image" backup. I don't have this problem on the image backup, but I do on the file.

It sometimes succeeds; it doesn't fail every time. I'd say about 50% of the time.

It's backing up over the network to a Drobo. The other Acronis backups I do go to the same Drobo without issue, to different directories.

It will sit and think and say "Calculating Time Remaining" for a while before I see the message. I browse to the V1 file and point it there, but it doesn't help.

I've tried deleting the backups and doing it again, fresh, in a new directory and it still happens.

It's Acronis True Image 2016 build 5634, Running on Windows 10 Pro.

My backup is "Encrypted". I don't know if I'll have better luck if it isn't. Maybe I'll try turning encryption off.

I have the same problem on one of my backups.  Acronis True Image 2016 build 6027, Windows 10 Pro.

I do a file backup (ok) and two image backups (one ok, one constantly giving this problem). Not encrypted, going onto a QNAP NAS.

Other times the job finishes with 'succeeded' but no backup is produced. Very worrying.

I did have this on other backups too.  Delete/re-define did not solve it.

In the end I uninstalled/installed the product because I was fed up with it, but now one of them is broken again.
