Validation fails when copying back up to DVDs

I am running the latest version of 2010 (Build 7046) and when using a DVD writer as the destination the procedure fails when it goes to the validation phase an error saying: File I/O error followed by "The system cannot find the file specified". An attempt to mount the backup results in an error saying: "Error while opening the archive file. The archive format is not by the operation."
