Version Chain confusion.

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I hope someone can help clear up my confusion. I'm creating a custom scheme to back up my OS but still confused with the settings. Ideally I'd like to create a full back up. Then four incrimental back ups after. After the fouth back up i'd like to consolidate (or rather delete) the four incrimental back ups and create a new incrimental back up after the original full back up. I'm confused as it looks like i have to create another full back up first creating a second chain. I don't have the storage avaiable for this and was hoping I could just have one full back up and work from that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The software will not do what you want it to do.

With a setting of full plus 4 incrementals, Store no more than 1 recent version chain,

the program will create the first chain of 5 backups. plus create the 2nd full.

Seconds after the 2nd full (Backup #6, the first chain of 5 backups will be deleted, leaving only the 2nd full.

As time passes, the next 4 incrmentals will again be created.

After each new full, the oldest chain will be deleted.

You must have enough storeage space for 2 full backups plus the one set of 4 incrmentals, otherwise the backup will fail with a disk full error message.  The GH12 illustratation can be configured to the full plus 4 inc with the "store no more than 1" setting.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup.
...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

If you do not have enough space for the above, consider getting a larger storage disk, and/ or using the link below.

This link shows a workaround if you want the storage folder to be clearred before the next full eliminating the space requirement for the 2nd full.
