Version Chain Deletion Problem

Thread needs solution

I seem to be having a problem using version chains where ATIH12 is not deleting any of the chain versions. The version sets just increase and none are removed. When it gets to the sixth set there is no more space on the drive and the backup fails. I then have to delete a couple of sets manually when ATIH12 is happy to continue.

I cannot find any settings which can change the number of version sets saved and the implication of the graphics within the version chain settings is that the sets should be removed automatically. This is not happening.

These illustrate the full; differential; and incremental.  Choose which is applicable to you. You can set the retention of chains based on your needs as the illustration is just an example. All are based on creating a custom backup scheme.

Hi GroverH,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry it has taken me so long to make my reply but I didn't get email notification of it for some reason and have only just seen it.

I will set up the backup based on Custom scheme instead of version chain scheme as you have suggested. I will post back here with the results.

Hi GroverH,

Just to let you know that the chains are now working correctly.

Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you for the update. Good luck.

Interestingly enough, I created a new differential data backup job a couple months ago, and even though I'd configured automatic cleanup, no chains are deleted. In my experience, automatic cleanup works on some jobs and not others. :-(

twokatmew,
Here are a few things I have found that works for me when creating a task using automatic cleanup.
Choose keep x number of chains.
Do Not choose any option where disk space or elapsed time is involved.
No edits of any type.
Each task to its own folder and its own backup file name.

The options I do NOT use may or may not work. When I find something that works, this is what I use. I choose options based on what works for me.

Thanks for the tips, GroverH. I only ever use the keep x number of chains option. But ... I have all jobs write to the same folder, as I use descriptive names for each job. Perhaps I'll try using separate folders for each job.

You can still use one folder but use sub-folders for each task.
